Range Report: Ruger Charger Mares Leg

Post by Sir Henry » Wed Mar 02, 2022 9:15 am

I was planning on going into Medford to register a vehicle and apply for a drivers license but I thought going while it’s snowing wasn’t a good idea. What was a good idea was to get out a firearm I haven’t shot in years.

I built this about ten years ago. About the same time I bought my first Henry Mares Leg.

I shoulder it like it has a buttstock. I can do this with rimfire as it doesn’t kick that much. I also have a Ranch Hand in 357/38 and can do the same although 357 isn’t the most comfortable to shoot like this.

I needed to be further away than shooting against the hill so I put the spinner at the edge of a snow pile. It sure makes a lot more noise.

I was at about 15 yards. A little to close to fully focus the scope but was still able to easily hit the spinners every time.

Interesting looking firearm. I would imagine the eye relief with the scope could be an issue when shooting using the stock as a buttstock.

However, I’m going to quit whining about the snow I still have at my place. :o :D

I hold the pistol out like it had a buttstock. Imagine the length of pull the same. I don’t tuck the nub up against mt shoulder. Yes lots of snow remaining.

Nice little .22 package Gene! I would like to put a Holosun on my Rossi Ranch Hand.

That would be a great combination. I think you would be able to get on target fast.

That's a classy little shooter. I'll bet it's fun to get out and blast away. Back around the holidays I put together and AR Pistol with 8 1/2" barrel. I can't stop shooting that thing. Burning up .223 ammo is a wee bit more expensive than .22 LR. ;)

This place seems to suit you. Glad you are getting to shoot. Also glad WE don't have snow right now but it is supposed to try again come Monday. Thanks for posting, looks like fun.

With rimfire I can shoot all day for pennies. :D

Thanks. I bought the place built around shooting and it’s proving to be everything I expected of it.
