Range Report: BB’s in the snow

Post by Sir Henry » Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:37 pm

I set out a BB target and shot this morning. I first set it out in the plowed driveway.

Then I set it out on the front deck. This is where I would like to shoot BB’s except put the catches on a post another 20 feet out.

I wondered out in the snow and was fence posting up to my knees.

This is where I was headed. It’s an old root cellar and this is where I want to shoot rimfire. I want to put the bullets stops out on the right of it and shoot from 25 yards. It will have to wait for the spring thaw.

Looks like the perfect set up to me. You just need to get yourself a pair of snowshoes. :D

Seems like a nice spot to setup for shooting!

Nice layout and target range possibilties! Could you stack thick timbers of the side of that root cellar as a back stop? How many acres you have?

I bought the Christmas one today. A person can never have too many Red Ryders. And being a grownup is highly overrated.

I’ll put the bullet traps to the side. I don’t want to damage the root cellar. I’ve also identified areas where I can shoot rimfire out to 50 and 100 yards. If I buy the field I can shoot centerfire out to about 600 yards.

I have 5 acres and want to buy 20 more. The school house is for sale and so is the old house. There is another 15 acres that joins my property. I would end up with about 40 acres.

If you had a John Deere green with a bucket you could be working on that range right now.

It’s hard to wait till it warms up. I made a run into Medford and drove around a bit seeing what stores are in town.

Yep. What BigAl said. 40 acres = work. May want to look up Forrest Gump. Since he’s a gozillionaire maybe he’ll keep it mowed for free.

I’m thinking lease it out. Or at least lease what hasn’t been made into a 450 yard centerfire range. I need an area for my bullets to impact. Or instead of leasing it just plants food plots for deer and then letting it go wild again. Currently out of the five acres I own I only need to Grimm one acre. Maybe every five years beat it back to the ground.

I would feather have ground cover for fowl and deer.
