Suicide at my LGS
Suicide at my LGS
Yesterday afternoon a fella walked into our LGS here in Yelm. Asked to see a handgun, pulled a loaded magazine from his pocket and took his own life..I have no other info as it's surrounded in police tape..

At least he didn't take anybody else with him.
Too bad they didn't have shower there to do it in. Wouldn't have made as much of a mess. Now the store owner has to deal with the mess, the fallout, the reputation, the investigation. Apparently there was no trigger guard on the display gun(s)?

Now that's just plain awful!
If he had a magazine, then you would think he had his own gun to do it privately. Wanted to shock as many as possible I guess...

Or he couldn’t legally buy a pistol, so he bought a mag and a box of ammo, and came back later to finish. It’s very sad, I worked in a gun store for a very short while, a depressed woman came in, said she had hardly any money and wanted to buy the cheapest gun we had, she did not care anything else about it. I asked her what she wanted it for, and her eyes filled with tears, she said “You know what for!” and she turned and rushed out of the store. That ruined my day, but not as much as if she had killed herself in front of me….

What a shame for everybody involved, especially the family of the deceased.
Had a similar but non violent occurrence in Spokane many years ago. Guy walked into a shop and asked to see a pistol. Then asked to see the ammo it was chambered for. Loaded it and robbed the store. No shots fired thankfully.

Ah... Actually, Greentop sporting goods was my go to supplier when I was a Firearms Instructor for my department, and after they moved into their new location I bought my shockwave from them. They hadn't added the range yet. I moved to OK in May of 2020.

These two guys rented guns at their range a week apart....

Just a sad and terrible thing to happen. The LGS I go to for FFL transfers is a very small store and most all of his operation is the indoor range.
There have been 2 incidents over several years of a suicide shooting inside the range area. Now he quit renting guns.

This is very sad. A close friend decided to take his life 2 years ago and we are still trying to figure out why. The only note he left was on his refrigerator that said "I've had enough, it's time to go." He was one of our regular motorcycle riding buddies. His name comes up in our conversations almost every time we ride. I have a hard time understanding why someone would do this.

Re: Suicide at my LGS
After my divorce in 1996, I dated a lovely woman for four years. She lived with me for the last two. I woke up one morning getting ready to leave for my office and came accross a note. She had gassed herself in the garage of her local girlfriend. I went and I found her. Suicide is very selfish. It was devastating and took quite a while to move on.
Sorry...aweful story, but it is way behind me now.

Thank you GFK.
Maybe I should have kept that to myself, however, it certainly came back to mind given this thread.

Re: Suicide at my LGS
With the life I've led, I have been exposed to several suicides. A dozen at least. Most thru my professional life, but a few in my personal life. We do what we can, we try and get them the help they need when we can... But in the end, they have to want help.
The sad part is, often folks will tell you, "I didn't think they were serious..."
That gets me every time.

At the same time as the GT suicides a shop i know in Ct had one. A couple of weeks ago, maybe a month, a budy in ct said the shop/range he goes to in CT had one.
Itnis a shame.

Re: Suicide at my LGS
As a cop, I saw way too many suicides. A great way to destroy others lives by killing yourself. I always felt bad for the loved ones left behind, but got really calloused towards the ones that did themselves in.

That's just sad. So hard to hear that people's lives are so messed up that they see suicide as an option.

Had an acquaintance who did himself in front of a crowd at a party at his house. Many thought it was a way of getting back at his wife and perhaps anger issues with some of his friends.
