Backyard test of new Rimfire Target using 30 cal air rifle !

Post by fortyshooter » Tue Feb 08, 2022 1:43 pm

I questioned whether the cans would stay attached to the magnets when hit with .22 Quiet target ammo. So I set it up in the yard at home and used the beastly Hatsan .30 cal air rifle with the heaviest pellet I had at 50 gr. and these run about 600 FPS which is still just a bit less than a 40 gr. .22
CCI Quiet load going 710 FPS. Got back about 13-15 yds and took three shots at the paper target to see where it hit and then 3 shots on the can.

Can did not move off the magnet which was great and 2 hits very close resulted in a large entry rip but showing the two together at the exit side.
That 30 cal. is a beast and not bad shooting after sitting in a corner for a good while. It is a difficult rifle to shoot on paper but we did well!

Okay so good to go and next outting will be down at the creek with the .22 shooters! I seem to get better group on an object rather than on paper targets for some reason.

Nice. I have a couple of PCP's Daystate Air ranger 22cal, wolverine 30 cal, and RAW HMX1000 .357 caliber.

Found them at Home Depot and they are good for 25 lbs. Lowes has them and maybe Harbor Freight too.

Thanks forty. I may be borrowing that idea for the desert. With your permission of course! ;)

Well done, forty. I find that it is easier to shoot steel targets, too, with my piston guns. Also more fun.

Got an old PC hard drive hanging around? There’s some serious magnets in there.

Great idea of another source! I have some of those super magnets that are about 5/8ths diameter and when two of them stick togther
they might as well be welded and don't let your finger get pinched! You can put one on the backside of your hand and place the other under your palm and move the top one around!

I do. Sitting in the garage. I'll look into that today. Thanks!

Well if it has a hole in the center to mount it to whatever you will use it should work great.
