Thought nascar had reached the bottom but....
Re: Thought nascar had reached the bottom but....
Markiver, when I first moved to NJ looking for a condo my real estate agent showed me a condo on a Sunday I liked. But what really sold me was I heard the music of a Top Fuel dragsters. As if that wasn't enough also heard gunshots. It was from Winchester shooting range right down the road. Needless to say I bought the condo. I was guy heaven. Your right just old fun memories

Re: Thought nascar had reached the bottom but....
Although I'm still boycotting Nascar, I did tune in a little here and there today (I've got an Antenna and they don't know I'm watching). What a disgrace. Those dancing girls during some kind of song were disgusting. The race itself had no Nascar feel that I've ever experienced. The magic and the electricity is gone. The track itself reminded me of an old small time local Saturday night race. And for all the hoop and hollering, there were still many empty seats. Daytona will probably do OK. The say it's sold out, but that's because they tore out almost half the stands. But I predict race #2 and beyond will bring more empty seats. For a long time hold-out, I'm pretty deflated.

I watched it and agree the entertainment was pretty darn disgusting. Two black men shouting words that I couldn't
understand and dancing girls that were making disgusting moves.
Not for me.
The race itself reminded me of the small track races like Richmond and Martinsburg. Lots of bumper cars.
I feel for the car owner and drivers as I'm pretty sure this is not what they want.
We will be on the road when Daytona is on but hopefully I can watch it in the motorhome.

The LA Coliseum race was a joke. I watched bits and pieces and it was an expensive experiment that failed.

As an old die hard NASCAR fan, I found it embarrassing. And I only watched it for a few minutes

I watched some of the qualifying and the main completely. I thought it was mostly boring with little passing. I skipped all the noise that was called entertainment by turning the volume off. I sure get tired of these âentertainersâ just trying to push sex, sex, sex.

Re: Thought nascar had reached the bottom but....
I watched some of the main race and wasn't impressed. Looked like they were trying to tie it in with football what with a halftime entertainment show which is when I tuned out. And who ever heard of 10-12 grand marshals for a race???? There was more hype than race!
I see the new cars are more like the street version with independent rear suspension but don't know why they went with a transaxle which looks like it could be a fragile piece.

Didn't watch a minute of it. Just did not look interesting at all the way it was configured in that field. As I mentioned in another forum, NASCAR has been dead in So-Cal since Riverside Raceway closed in '87 or '88. Never caught on here. Riverside was THE place for racing then. They had it all; NASCAR, Can-Am and Indy type racing, not to mention a host of other types of car and motorcycle racing. Fabulous track.
Re: Thought nascar had reached the bottom but....
Used to love watching the NASCAR guys and the West Coast guys run Riverside. I have always enjoyed road courses. For a couple of years Downtown Spokane was turned into a road course with some open wheel classes and the Northwest Super Stocks running too.

Back in the mid 80s I was teaching young Marines and Sailors Aviation Electronics at NAS Memphis. Every year we'd head to the NHRA Quaker State Nationals for drag racing and I'd buy a top tier ticket, access to the pits, races, and vendors row. The big names were still racing then... I loved it. You could stand twenty feet away and watch them tear the engine down and rebuild it between runs, and the drivers still walked around pit row. The top fuel dragsters and funny cars would compress your chest as they blew by if you were standing on the rail. You could still do that.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

If you guys are getting tired of NASCAR give F1 a shot. First race March 18th -20th BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX 2022.It's a whole different ball game from NASCAR. Give it a try you just may like it.

Have watched some F1 over the years and enjoyed! Maybe I'll lean that way a little more. I suspect THEY have maintained their integrity.

MK54 ,so far they have. Rules change every year but it's still neck to neck racing. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. There's no space in between. Hamilton 7 time world champion Verstappen new and younger won his first world championship last year. It's a great rivalry.

Re: Thought nascar had reached the bottom but....
I watch F1 and the last lap of the last race wasnât really fair, I believe F1 picked their champion, they didnât allow DRS and Lewis wasnât able to pass Verstappen as he would in any other F1 race.Nam Vet wrote: âWed Feb 09, 2022 12:13 amMK54 ,so far they have. Agree 100% they did not want Lewis to get that 8th championship or break Schumacher's record. Lets see what 2022 will bring.
