Our Morning Coffee and Weather

Ive mentioned a few times it has been a mild summer for us but 50 in the middle of January a hour after sunrise is cool.
Wife just made me another mocha before climbing back under a blanket on the lounge.

Spent the day packing the Christmas stuff back in place in the garage...had it all sitting in sunroom. Changed the oil on wife's Edge and cranked up and ran the Kubota for a while. Thursday thru Saturday looks like a snow storm coming thru and will be cold. Went to the store to do the grocery shopping early and got the generator running to test it out. Might need it if we get icy stuff with the storm.

Yup, wasn't even thinking about the weather. I just went to the local supermarket for 3 or 4 items and WOW!! looked like people were preparing for Armageddon. Long checkout lines and people fighting for parking spots, which are already limited because of the heavy snow we just had.
My mistake. I don't have much tolerance for that. If we can't go 2 or 3 days without going to the store, then something is wrong.

Funny thing dave, the dealership looked up the model and the fellow went to the parts bin, and came back with a small box. I had asked for a half dozen after he said each side took one and the auger took one. I figured that would hold me. In the truck, I took a look and they looked just like what you were given with the nylon coated nuts to keep them on. I hadn't looked at the manual yet to see where they went. They don't go through the rod like all the other blowers I've had. Interesting. When I broke the bolt, it was from the build up from the plow at the road. No rocks or sticks.

Is this the way your shear pins attach? My one at work attached through the rod but it was probably around 15 years ago that I got it. I wonder why they changed it? I do see that style has a grease zerk on the auger which is a good idea.

I can see the need for good shear pins, $438 for one side of the front auger.

I never had a rear impeller/auger shear pin break but broke quite a few of the front ones. Wet snow that's been plowed twice by the city's big plows is pretty dense.

I dont have any shear pin issues down here at all. Dont even see any snow blowers at work. There is some blowers around but there just blowing the palm tree fronds into a nice little pile and keeping the spots clean. was 64 overnight here and 75 again today. Shot some skeet again today.

Cold today and tomorrow..about 15° ( hey. That's cold to me, so that's my call and I'm sticking to it ) anyway... coffee is good...
I dont see the cows getting their hay feeding until it's closer to noon, and in the low 20s.. ( another one of my calls....) hope its acceptable weather today for the rest of you...have a good day where you be.....

50 and raining, why am I awake at 3:48 am ? Won't be light for another 3 and a half hours.. might as well start coffee.. I have no plans today except change oil in my brothers motorcycle, it's stored here for the winter.

33 heading to 38 with another gray day on tap. Had a decent rain/wet snow overnight that didn’t add any to the total on the ground. But I’m sure our mountains got piled on which is good news. Now for the next week we expect a more normal temperature range with lows in the mid 20’s and highs in the mid 30’s. And, maybe just maybe some sunshine which will be a nice break from gray.

Not much on tap today other than taking my wife’s car in for service and a roof rack recall. Our pup has developed a cough so we’re going to try and get him in to see the vet.

Teens again today. Going to single digits or less tonight.

Late coffee today as I had physical therapy and then off to market. I tried a new one today. I wasn't impressed.

Yes Dave, bolt #3 is the new spot for me. The box of spares and wrenches are in the glove box, just in case. It's much easier to line up than on the rod. The grease zerk is a great idea. One of the shoes loosened too. Those wrenches are in the glovebox too.

5° TO START.. Mild to you hardy folk out there to the north, but nasty cold to a thin skinned old cob like me.... im ready for a warm up. Once again , I won't feed untill about noon when it's warmed up some.. about the only way this cold could be of any use would be if you were inside your big warm castle by a roaring fire, while the enemy hordes besieging and surrounding your castle were camped outside in thin whimpy tents... then the cold might be your friend. However, as of today I have no hordes on my doorstep so I should prefer the cold to leave.... so fir now I set and sul on my hot coffee...

it appears we have a rare temperature day in store for us today .... its 27 right now going to a high of 28 so our temps will be below freezing all day ..... the roads are reported to be icy .... one person killed when their ambulance slid off the road ... snow said to be on its way .... we have no plans to venture out

35 this morning and now only 37 with winds 10-12. Just had cereal and coffee for breakfast. The general and I got the long stretch of fence done yesterday. Just got to finish the short front section and build a new gate.

It was something below 0 last night. 2 F this am. It's 9 in the full sunshine now.

I took a thermos of coffee over for babysitting duty this morning and I just put on half a pot more as I just walked back home. My LLBean 3/4 length wool coat with attached hood is plenty warm for this weather with the right clothing underneath. It is no longer offered. I have it in blackwatch tartan. I used to have a cap that matched until it made it's way into the laundry by accident and came out a few sizes smaller than when it went in. The second round of coffee is with the farmall mug.

This afternoons plans are to catch up on some office work.

Woke up to 30 with 34 forecast up here in the balmy north. Feel bad for you folks back east and down south in the Texas area. Ma nature is not respecting you, is she?

I was sitting in my recliner drinking my coffee and enjoying my morning forum journeys and then my phone rang. The fence crew was going to start my project today so I had to put the coffee and ipad down and head outside to snowblow off the fence line. Then use the tractor to move the berm I plowed up because it had too many driveway rocks in it and I figured I would just break a shear pin on the blower. Good think I waited to remove the snow due to my concern with the ground becoming frozen without the snow blanket for insulation. These poor guys used manual labor post hole diggers to dig the holes. Needless to say they were happy the ground was still thawed. I am amazed just how quickly four guys were able to dig the holes for 300’ of fence. Ah to be young again….


Interesting that it was last September when I contracted both the thinning/limbing and the fence projects. And now here in January both crews are here working at the same time. Funny how life works out sometimes.
