It arrived at high noon today....the 1873 Uberti/ Wichester Carbine in .44 Mag which to me is the holy grail of the 1873 lever rifles....they are hard to find! Just happened to find it on Guns International and a Texas Cabela's had it in the Gun Library....used of course. This was Friday morning and
a guy showed up around noon the buy my 1968 Schwinn Orange Krate. Big piece of puzzle falls in place.
Then the 1873 is shipped out Saturday from Texas via FedEx. Remember it is Christmas and shipping is crazy and most times things get delayed or lost with them at the hubs. I have no tracking number but the sales guy said it should be here Tuesday....today!

Working around the house today getting things cleaned up for Christmas and then the phone rings. Wife yells it's the gun shop and it is right after 12:00 Noon. My buddy says your rifle here but hurry I'm leaving in 30 minutes and the other guy doesn't have his FFL yet to transfer guns....in training.
Major piece of puzzle falls in place as the FedEx guy was early today!

Got it home and wow looks better than the website picture....the bluing is awesome and it looks like it had very little if any use!
Cycles nice and smooth but doesn't care much for a semi wadcutter style bullet. Cycles my .44 Special dummy rounds fine with the RNFP.

Took to my Shootin' Shack in the backyard and gave it a quick barrel clean and wipe down with Ballistol....man it looks fantastic and off to my range tomorrow!

Congrats Forty those Ubertis are nice and I would not hesitate at all to shoot 44 mag loads in that gun.

Thanks guys! Next challenge was to find wall hanging spot for it. Was able to move the Henry 357 BBS to the other wall which is now all Henry and now my three Ubertis are all together. Got the loads I want to try in the range bag and all those use RNFP bullets and loaded with either Red Dot or Unique and those are all .44 Specials. Reason for that is I'm bringing along the 1871 Navy Colt open top which is .44 Special. Might throw in some mid range .44 Mag if I have any with a RNFP. Another bullet order for those soon!

I'm impressed. Probably got more for the bike than the Carbine cost.

Still trying to dig up more info on these. I looked around on the Uberti/USA site and see the 44 Mag version no longer listed. Sent them an email about how to determine the year made and how they hold up with standard 44 Mag ammo. At some point over the years they were making .44 Special only rifles in a limited run even though the .44 Mag version runs .44 Special fine. My MB bullet order is shipped out and will be loading the 200 gr. Cowboy bullet in the 1200 FPS range out of the carbine for general use.
Compared to my Henry 44 Mag Carbine these two carbines remind me of the Chrysler 426 Hemi.... you had one for the street and one for race only.
The Henry being Race only having to run those bullets fast for best accuracy and the 1873 for cruising target use on the range!
