Very unfortunately my LGS - who no longer dealt in firearms or ammunition - but still dealt in reloading supplies - just passed due to covid. Two months ago he messaged my wife on Facebook to let me know he was holding a four pound canister of 2400 and 500 small pistol primers for me. He was a good man. He was the sole support for the local library, supported the local little league, sponsored archery shoots at the local conservation club. Years ago in one of his inventory reduction auctions I picked up a White Whitetail Hunter in .451 caliber for $90. A true steal. I often went there just to visit. A private message to my wife to let me know he had something he figured I would want is the kind of person he was. I will miss him greatly. Not because of what he did for me but what he did for the community. When walking into his shop I would hear “What’s Michael needing today?” I will miss you my friend.

That is becoming the norm for a lot of us. Those we hold in high regard are moving on. Glad you knew such a good neighbor. RIP.

Its a tough part of life seeing friends and family pass on. I saw a sign recently that made me think about things as I approach the end of my own. One life live it. Sorry for your loss RIP friend

So sorry for your loss. It's sad to see them go. We find the memories pop up at odd times, and the twinge returns.

Years ago, one of my old patrol friends retired to the shore to fish, and couldn't stand the boredom. "You can only catch so many fish, then you need a break, and I hate golf."

He took a job as a courier for a couple select companies. Law Firms, Doctors Offices, Real Estate Stuff. Drove packages all over the state, mostly legal documents. When he came near my farm on return trips, he'd call and we'd drink coffee on the porch and tell lies.

Hadn't heard from him in a while, so I texted him. I got a phone call from his daughter. He had passed unexpectedly from a brain bleed a couple months before. Knowing his habits, she kept his pager account open, to notify those friends he'd see every few months. Years later, I will think of Dave, sitting on the deck with my coffee. the things we got into, his Air Force Stories, midnights on patrol. Good ol Dave... and grin.

As I sip my coffee and read zara puppy's original post and marine's last post, I think of people that have already faded from my life like that. There haven't too many, but there aren't too many left. If you can think of ten folks like that, you are blessed, five and you are lucky, even one and you are doing well.
In my working days I liked to be around people who liked people, regardless of their role in the organization. We had other people who folks said behind their back, "his retirement party can be held in a phone booth".
I'm with you marine, I catch myself thinking of a missing friend now and then. I had lost touch with him as his third wife rubbed many of us the wrong way, including intercepting his incoming phone calls. He was a great one otherwise.
I guess it's who will remember you and how they will do it.

Has been a lot of that around my area lately and the latest was a friend who opened up a small muffler shop back in the mid 1980's. He later moved it to a new larger location 10 years later and was doing very well expanding into general auto repair with many employees. He would do some custom exhaust work for me back in the earlier days. He died suddenly at 59.
Sad to see them go.

Two years ago I lost a close friend like this. He was one of our group of over-the-hill motorcycle riders. When the weather was decent we would ride once a week. We've added a new rider to our group now, but our old friends name always comes up in conversations. It's very hard to loose a friend that you laughed, and joked and enjoyed time with. I think what made his loss hurt even more, is he tragically took his own life for reasons we still don't understand.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'll say a prayer for him, his family and you
