Very nice photo of you two against some beautiful country! Yup, the day does look hot & sunny, but the pic is cool!

I smiled a little at your "coincidental" description of the land you were on -- Waldron Grazing Co-op. Today when I was the MDC range called Parma Woods, the road I traveled over is Waldron Road. It goes directly from the tiny village of Waldron, MO (think I saw the signage for Waldron showing the pop. of 239), and connects with the outdoor range access road. Not an important comment at all, just trivia. But like I said, the name "coincidence" made me smile.

BTW, I wish I had my camera with me on the way to the range, for two reasons. The fall colors are starting and it looked great outdoors. Plus I saw for the first time an eagle's nest just west of Waldron Road. The Waldron P.O. clerk had told me this summer that a nest was there, so I've been looking for it. Hopefully someday I'll see the nest's inhabitants!

No worries PT7. It's a small world sometimes. The "Waldron" as its known here was the Walrond Ranch back in the 1880's. Supposedly Butch Cassidy worked there for a brief time while dodging US law. He was there under one of his many alias names. It's a big operation with 4 full time cowboys April to December. I've rode there a bunch on and off over the years, mostly gathering our a7 cows when they crossed over on to Waldron range.

Badger on his brunch break this morning. I just sat and leaned against a fence post for awhile. Nice a quiet out there. Good for the soul.

That's a beautiful photo! I really like it! Sometimes when I was younger I used to hike way back on a flat on top of a mountain that was in short driving distance from my home and park the car and hike with a rifle or revolver. Not to hunt, just to hike. I just sat there in the deafening silence and watched for any small birds or creatures that might happen by. Just for fun. You are right, it is good for the soul.

They're also much more difficult to produce than color. This one is beautiful with distinct shades of grey stretching from the sky all the way down to the grass, including details and shadows on Badger and the light of the sun reflecting from the stirrup. Wonderful composition. Thanks.

This field was full of cows a couple weeks ago so I thought the emptiness of it was kinda neat. "Next year country" I've heard it called. Cowboy life goes from frantic activity some days to this scene the next.
If I could take this photo again I'd have the saddle horn break the horizon.

Gathered and sorted 400 pairs today. Sorting the steers and heifers. Temps in the 60's. Spent 9 hours in the saddle. Badgers tired tonight. We also saw a brief sighting of a cougar chasing down a deer just up the hill behind where we were sorting. I only caught a glimpse as they went over the hill. But deer was on the menu.
