Tom, I used some this past Summer, 6.5 with a 195 gr SWC, and a 200 gr RFN.
Worked pretty good in the Marlin, and Rossi rifles and the Uberti pistol.

Thanks Randy. More than likely, I'll be using 230 lrn in .45 acp and 250 in .45 Colt. But, you never know!

Tom I haven't used it in 45 ACP but it shoots well in 45 Colt for target loads. Try 6.0 gr with a 250 gr. bullet and might work just as well with a 200 and 230 in the 45 Colt brass. I use 5.5 gr of Red Dot with soft lead Speer 230 gr. bullets in 45 Colt for my 1858 Remington revolver.
In 45 ACP you might want to reduce the load due to less case volume.

Looked in my Speer load book #13 and see 5.0 gr of Red Dot as a good mid point with 230 gr. FMJ or cast bullet.

Thanks guys! Yeah, it looks like 5.0gr for .45 acp and 6.0gr it is for the .45 Colt. Forty, I will try some Red Dot in the Colt with those 230gr LRN I have.
My lgs got a HUGE shipment of Alliant powders in a week or so ago and still has 154 1lb bottles of Red Dot! And close to 100 bottles of Unique. And a slew of other Alliant powders, so, why not try Red Dot? Thanks again.

Good to know about the abundance of Alliant powders. I think the RD is a much cleaner burning powder, if I see any around here I will pick up a couple more lbs., my stash is getting low.

True that ^^^! Now, if he gets in any Hodgdon powder[Universal], I'd get one more of those and I'd be set for a looong time.

Now did he have any primers to go with all that powder?

Is that the new norm? Haven't bought much lately, just been runing on what I already have.
I did pick up a couple lbs. of 2400 last year, but I don't think it was nearly that expencive.
