Hey quest, don't worry about tying up the thread, this is what its for.

Below are some results of my loads for my 45-70. All were 5 round groups shooting at 50 yards, iron sights, bench rest position shooting 405 grain bullets.

Between Hunters and Missouri Bullets, I favor MB hands down (you will find a lot of the members use MB). You can see that I had tighter groups with the MB than Hunters.

I load either IMR4198 or H332 with pretty equal results and to this point really don't prefer one over the other, which gives me some nice flexibility for available powder. (I dropped 36.5 grains of IMR4198 and 43.5 of H322 for both bullet types)

So load em up and let us know what the results are !

Thanks, somehow I missed your post last nite

36.5 is the minimum powder charge according to Lyman's reloading manual and that's where I intend to start and work up from there
What kind of muzzle velocities am I looking for with the low charge ?
And seating depth, do you try to find better accuracy by tweaking seating depth slightly or just load them to SAAMI 2,550"

Below is the Chrono data. Muzzle velocity ran between 1,627 and 1,637 and averaged at 1,632 FPS average power factor of 663 with the H332 and the Missouri Bullets.

Below is the Chrono data for the 4198 with Missouri Bullet. Muzzle velocity ran between 1,533 and 1,555 with an average velocity of 1,539 FPS with an average power factor of 615.

I am not attaching the Hunters Bullet data as it was all over the place and did not print as well on the target. I have since traded off those bullets.

Roger that, the secret to tight groups is to close both eyes when you pull the trigger !

One of my favorite colors. I almost bought a 69 Dodge Charger R/T in that color.

Well it's red or green, I did them in red first time. Then I did a bunch of 44's in red, so I decided to go green on the 41's this go around. 210's and these whoppers. A 270 gr mold this last batch ran from 275 to 280.

Didn't do anything today, but a friend dropped by headed back to MO.
Gave me these, the mold is for the 38-55 Cowboy, the bottle I'm not sure how I deserved it. 😉😲
