New here and just got my new Henry.

Post by harley1981 » Sun Oct 10, 2021 8:48 am

Hi there , long time reloader and caster. Have a few Marlins, and many handguns, Smith's,Colts and Ruger's. I just fell in love with a Henry big boy in 44 mag. The fit, finish, and so far on the web reputation, I am looking forward to loading for and shooting it!

Gotta love the Henry levers! I'm really happy with my brassie .357 and my 45-70. Holding nice groupings with both :-)

Well , I had her out Monday. I only had 15 rounds of 240gr JHP loaded for my Smith M29, loaded. So the idea was to shoot 10 rounds just to feel her out. Then shoot 5 rounds, on paper, see what group size. But I got to shooting off hand at some steel plates, 4" at 25 yards and 6" at 50 yards, and, um, well, I kinda didn't get TOO that 5 round group! I was having too much fun hearing that lovely "PING" "PING, that I found my self out of ammo. "I hate when that happen"!

So now I have to "Load", all that boring work, LOL. I'll finish the box of Hornady 240gr JHP's same load of XXgrs of Alcan AL-8. After shooting those, I have a Lyman #4294421 245gr Keith type SWC mold, no GC. Thinking of trying that bullet, cast hard. If anyone has used that bullet, any comments would be appreciated.
