Ammo Recommendation

I was able to finally get a Model X in .38/.357. I have some ammo my Dad loaded for his S&W Highway Patrolman. Not much left so I am looking for good ammo in both calibers for sport shooting and plinking in both my new rifle and my Dad's HP. Any recommendations or experience on what to use or avoid? Magtech, PMC, and American Surplus are available and affordable. Buy or pass? Remington is also available but Winchester, Fiocchi, Sellier & Bellot are unavailable or unaffordable.

Have used Magtech in the past don't remember any issues in a Ruger GP100 357magnum revolver. As for PMC I have used 38 special and 357magnum in both Ruger GP100 and Henry Big Boy Brass with excellent results. However have not had any ammo issues with the Henry rifle. I imagine in the hands of someone who is a good shot it would be even more accurate.

I have heard good things about Magtech. Have not shot any myself, however, I would not hesitate to try some, if I could find any right now.

We've had very good performance from the Magtech in our 357s, one of those being hubby's Highway Patrolman. The 357 Magtech is not the hottest 357 ammo out there, but it is definitely NOT 38 Special, either. Good, decently accurate 357 target ammo.

Magtech and PMC are good; especially Magtech. Not familiar with American Surplus. If you can get Magtech, get it.

Tried Magtech in my Marlin 1894C and had ejection issues. Had to wait a few seconds after firing, before I could cycle the lever with ease. Seemed the casings had to cool some, before the rifle would cycle smoothly. I plan to shoot the rest of the box out of my revolver.

I will definitely test a box or two before I buy in bulk. Hopefully it was a bad manufacturing day and not an indication of the ammo. Thanks for the warning.

PMC is made right here in Houston. I've shot their rifle ammo without a hitch and very accurate. I have not shot their pistol and revolver ammo however. I wouldn't hesitate to use based on their rifle ammo.

I have used PMC .44 Magnum ammo in both revolvers and rifles and never had any problems Never have used their .38spl or .357 mag ammo. Their brass cases work well for reloading as well.
