Three squirrel rifles on Thursday Oct.28
Went to the range last Thursday with three CZ 22's. Two were 452's and one was my budget priced entry level 513 Basic(Farmer). Took some RWS sub sonic HPT and some RWS Hi-vel HPT. These are all rifles that will be used after turkey season ends. The Grand Finale will see the least time in the woods due to chances of the oil finish getting wet and spotting. Will carry it on nice weather days. That is the reason I hate oil finishes for hunting. The other 452 is my long barreled Ultra Lux that is super quiet with the subs for squirrel. Shot six 5 shot groups with both ammos at 50 yds. The 513 Basic and the Grand Finale looked to be about a toss up with both ammos. After getting home and measuring the group size for all the targets the 513 Basic actually came in first with the Grand Finale a very close second and the UL last. All groups were under a 1/2" for the 513 and two groups for the GF were near 5/8". The UL had three groups at 9/16-5/8" and three under a 1/2". Good enough for squirrel but I don't how many times I will hunt with the clumsy 28.6" barreled gun. This day the 513 edged out the GF but happy to see a cheap model CZ do what makes for a great hunting rifle with out the high cost. I only paid $275 for it when I bought it. It has a non-adjustable trigger that pulled close to 7 lb but I fooled with it for several hours until I got it down to 1 1/2 lb so now I enjoy shooting it a lot more. This has always been used for my scabbard rifle on my 4-wheeler in my winter trips to the mountains.

Glad you got out for some great shooting, bandit. Not at all surprised with the results. I don't think CZ uses anything special as far as barrels for the Grand Finale other than giving the GF barrel a nicer external finish. CZ does make a match chamber barrel, though, which is on my Varmint MTR 457 (which I still have). That match chamber does make a difference, but that Varmint MTR is a tank, strictly a bench gun. You would not want to carry it in the woods.

You’re talking my kind of firearm and ammo. Great shooting!

According to CZ's specs on the Grand Finale's the barrels are made on the manual barrel making equipment in the old Brno workshop. Brno was known to have excellent barrels on their rifles and are sought after by shooters that like the quality of the Brno rifles. I can honestly say all 5 of our Grand Finales are very fine shooters so something must be right with the build quality. NCG you are right about there is no match chamber in the GF but they do close slightly tighter than the standard models but they would be considered loose compared to my 540 Remington's. My wife won't shoot the 540's because they hurt her hand to close the action on a live round.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 11:25 amGlad you got out for some great shooting, bandit. I probably should have grabbed one of those GFs when they were available. You know how that goes.

The CZ455 I bought to have an accurate 22 to bench, when the gunshop was out of Ruger heavy barrel bolt guns turned out to be a great choice. I scoped it with Nikon glass for the wife to use to keep squirrels out of her coops, and she became an assassin. They mounted and bore sighted the scope and my first five shot group had four of the five in one ragged hole with the fifth just out.
Still miss Ts go to gun.
