.17 HMR Ballistics

Post by JimP » Sat Oct 30, 2021 10:05 am

Hi Guys,
Was sighting in my Henry .17 HMR Frontier yesterday at 100 yds. I was using a rest and getting very good 1in groups. before I left, I shot at 50 yds and again had a 1/2in group, but it was 1 1/2in high. When I look at Hornady ballistics charts, It should be about .3in high. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Perhaps I wasn't really sighted in at 100yds, or prehaps Hornady 17 gr V-Max isn't as flat shooting as they advertise.

I use the same ammo and I find it extremely flat shooting. I use it and get 1/2 groups at 25,50, and 100m

I have found most ammo manufactures to be a little ( OK, A lot) optimistic about their ballistics. The only thing to do is to write it in your DOPE and refer to it & update it when shooting at the range. . . .
