That luckygunner video ought to help the OP. Thanks for putting that up Gunny. A good watch for shooters having "issues" with sighting a scope.
You're welcome. It's one of the best explanations/tutorials on the subject that I've run across. :)

That said, the Vortex Diamondback the OP has is a rimfire scope, so it may be having a internal problem with the much heavier recoil on his .308, although judging from the initial zeroing it would appear to be holding up well so far.

They offered me New Diamondback scope.

Either

1.75 - 5 X32
Or
3 -9 X 40

Any recommendations are appreciated.

I'd really like to be able to answer that question .... I took our BLR to our local shop where I've bought firearms and related equipment since the late 70's .... recommended the Nikon 3X9 and the rings to mount it ... that was something over 40 years ago and I simply don't remember .... those rings and the scope have been on it every since

Definitely the 3x9.

Those old Nikons are some pretty scopes Jim, I think I have 5.

No less than a 3X9 for a .308. I used to have a Winchester .308 years back. Sold it to a friend who needed a deer rifle for his grandson. I took some deer with that rifle for sure. I'd be tempted to put on a 4X12X50 with taller rings if necessary. It depends on what you're wanting to do with the rifle. If you 're just target shooting at 100 yards the 3X9 is plenty. If you're looking to shoot long range then expect to spend more money for a 5X25X55 but expect to spend around $700 plus new rings for it.

Like others have said 3x9 and I would think medium rings would work just fine. Also agree with Jake but it sounds here like they are offering you a new scope in replacement for the one you sent in. But you didnt mention that.

All our hunting is under 100 yards. The forests are thick and it usually requires quick 3 secs decision to make a shot otherwise its gone. I have scopes with much higher specs on other rifles and am going with 1.75 - 5 X 32..
I had good discussion with Vortex experts and the scope has no problem on.308. However, it will gimme a quick shot with the kind of place I be hunting

I thank everyone for their response and input. Appreciated your time and advice.

One fact is for sure that original scope had a problem. .

Quick check online for ballistics I found this chart. Zero at 200 yards is almost 2" high @100. I'd try it at 100 yrds and see where it lies.

Installed 1.75 5 32 Diamond back after detail discussion with the Technical expert of Vortex. Went to range..and 1st zero at 25 yards..excellent bulls eye for 2 shots. Increased the distance to 50 and here it starts going up by almost 6 inches..I am really confused and thinking of saying good bye to this rifle ..I had planned to use it this deer season . But looks as if my 270 bolt action will still be my Companion. Any good advice be appreciated. Tnks

I think if it was me I would take the scope back off and shoot the gun with the iron sights. If it still is acting the same way I would call Henry. You may have a bad barrel. Im sure its not what you want to hear but it’s happened to others here including myself where it’s necessary to send a gun back. Probably a little more difficult since you are in Canada.

any idea as to the muzzle velocity and specifics on the bullet :?:
150 GR . 2,8120 FPS
Plug your numbers into JBM. BC for this round is .226. Max height on the trajectory will likely be around 150yds. Scope height: measure from centerline of bore to centerline of scope. Probably around 1.5". Using these numbers, Max Height on the trajectory will likely be around 150yds

Paralex setting of scope is at 100 yards and it is good for heavy rifles like .308.

I hope you get it fix...
My problem is much worse then yours. I'm afraid that mine is going back to Henry. Basketball size groups at 75 yards, the trigger pull is crazy heavy..

Good luck to you
