Tried a different load for the 38-55...Update AL

Post by Vaquero » Mon Oct 11, 2021 12:59 pm

Al shared this load with me, and I gave it a little try this morning. Still getting used to the peep so I'm sure this could be better with time.
Also shot the Westerfield 30-30, with a couple different loads. I never touched the scope, it was zeroed with the 170's @ 75yds.
This was from the picnic table which is about 53 yds.

Randy, that 30-30 is shooting mighty good! Very good indeed! That .38-55 has promise as you get used to the sights. Doing good.

Bump it up Randy. Did a little more research and 28 grains seemed to be a sweet spot. But theres nothing wrong with that group on the right for peep sight.

Thanks, that was the first group I shot.
I need to setup some longer shots.

Love that 30-30. It has that used but not abused look that is so appealing. Shoots like it has experience too! :D

Believe it or not I got that about 3 years ago, for $200 without the scope. :o
I forget now it was made in either '64, or '65.
Thanks for the kind words.

Ok bumped it to 28.0. Got two touching this time and 4 of the 5 fairly close.

Hmm thanks for testing that. I have a couple pounds of 3031 gives me more powder for the 38-55. That 28 grain load looks like it has some promise to me. I bet with a scope those would have grouped nice.
