Grasslands Range report

Post by BigAl52 » Wed Oct 06, 2021 7:23 pm

Today I went to the grasslands again. It was a nice day out there and not much wind. I took out an AR to check where it was shooting. Turns out it was dead on and I only shot 10 rounds thru it and put it away. Next up Henry SS in 357. I like this gun light weight easy to shoot and I have a red dot on it. Ive thought about a scope but the dot is doing the trick for me now. The following targets are with 4 different loads and only one load is a different powder. That being HS-6. I have alot of it. It shoots pretty good although there is some inconsistency with it.

This target is the 180gr pugnose at 50 yards off the bench. Powder 2400 11.5 grains. These bullets hammer anything they hit.

This target is 158gr Roze Dist. with 13.5 grain of 2400. Very accurate load I think. If I had a scope I bet they would have been tighter

This target is 15gr 2400 and a Hornady XTP 158 gr bullet. Ive used this load in other guns with great success. It works good here to.

Last load is 9.2 grains of HS-6 and the Roze bullet 158gr HP. The roze bullets shoot good. Wish they werent out of them. Also 2400 is a performer. Its always been my go to powder for the upper loads in 357. I have quite a few loaded up with the HS-6. I blew one of those shots in that group on the final target but that happens to me more than not. I need to hand it over to NCG or Ranchroper Most of these hits would make the steel gong ring that I have and thats all I really care about. YMMV
Don't let the old man in

Dang Al, good day at the range I'd say! That 180/2400 load is sooo reliable in .357. You had a damn good day bud.

Excellent! You are a mind reader!!! I just ordered a SS .357. I use 2400 for loading .44’s and .357’s for revolvers. I was going to post the question “has anyone happened to come upon a .357 load for a Single Shot Henry using 2400?”

Boom!! Here you are. I use 13.5 grains and a 158 Grain XTP for the GP100. Looks like I should be able to use the same load for both.

No kidding - I came here looking for exactly this. You are the man!

Those are very good, consistent groups using a red dot, Al. I'd be happy with them. Really like that 158 Roze group. Be worth adding a scope, sometime.

Nice shooting Al! I have had excellent results with the HS-6 and 158 grain Hornady XTPs. Have a bunch of .38 ready to go (once I get a crimp on em) with 110 grain XTPs and HS-6 as well.

I like the pugs and the 158 XTP targets. With a touch of elevation adjust the 158 XTP look excellent! Great shooting Al!

The 158 Roze was dead on.
