Alberta Sunset

Post by RanchRoper » Tue Mar 29, 2016 12:04 pm

I found these pics from last fall, one of the nicest sunsets I've seen. The cool part is these are actually the eastern sky as the sun went down over the mountains west of us. I took these with my cell phone from our deck. Enjoy.

Wow! That is remarkable that was to the east. What did the west look like?

The west part of it was pretty ordinary. No clouds. Just the way the east and south clouds stacked up I guess.

Couple more random pics. Crowsnest Mtn just west of our home and a storm brewing to the south. We get some pretty dramatic weather shifts sometimes due to the Rockies nearby.

...plus a wore out partner after a full day moving cows a few months ago. Does his face say "long day" or what?

I've seen that happen before when the sun is shinning on the underside of the clouds and not through them.

Thanks, RanchRoper. Beautiful shots at sunset. I've often noticed more drama and variation of colors in the Eastern sky at sunset because of the strong illumination from under the clouds and the angle of the light as it hits dust and gas in the atmosphere. Very cool.

Thank you. Our horses are like family. We spend a lot of time with them. It's funny you know, I hear people sometimes say they can't catch their horse in the pen or pasture, and how come ours just walk up to see us. I always ask them if they ever spend any time with their horse when they're not trying to catch them? We spend lots of time just hanging out with them and it pays off. Besides, it's very enjoyable!

Yes, we get some real beauties. We saw the northern lights one time years ago, only once over the north range about a mile east of us. Just driving home one night and WOW. We are 2.5 hrs southwest of Calgary and the city glow blots out the northern lights now I think. Too bad.

Here's one from around the new year. I liked that his dog was in it, and the sun. It was about 830am and we were just getting started moving 283 cows about 15 miles to the home ranch. About 25F with a nice breeze. Enjoy.

We just had friends over to share my wife's birthday cake and one said she had just seen a painting of a cowboy on his horse with his dog alongside. "How beautiful it was", she said. Let me say that, too. How beautiful! Thanks.
