Check your law in Canada, In the US putting a full stock on a Mare's Leg makes it a short barrel rifle and is illegal without getting a $200 tax stamp for it. Once converted it can not be converted back to it's original form. I don't know how Canada classifies the Mare's Leg. Here it is a pistol.

Well had to make one of those executive type decisions today. Revolver I ordered not in stock with a long wait, or go with this one he has in stock and a week or so away.
Went with this, exact same except this is the Richards transition (before Mason came along), only difference is the barrel support which is the original 1860 Army percussion piece less the lever removed when it was converted to cartridges in the 1870's. Ejector rod is a little different too but true to original. I still love the old timey look and I handled this one at the gun show too. With luck I'll be shooting it next week. Would have been easier to get a Peacemaker but, I really like these older period revolvers!

Looks like this one has a steel receiver while the former had brass. Brass is a better match for the BB, but the advantage of steel is that you can purchase a conversion cylinder to shoot .45 colt cowboy loads.

RanchRoper, this is also a really cool pistol. It's never been easy to change horses in the middle of a stream (I'm told), but I think you'll be just as happy at the range with this revolver, possibly more so. I'm so very much looking forward to your range reports. Congratulations.

BTW, where is the rear sight on this revolver? A notch in the hammer, or at the start of the barrel? Can't see this one clearly. Glad you had the chance to handle one at the gun show....that's the way to go!

It's a case hardened frame, and is chambered in .45 Colt, so I can shoot the same ammo as my Henry; 250 gr Winchester lead flat nose (or round in the revolver) both easy to find here in stores.

Exactly the same as the other one, V-notch in the hammer. When Colt was tasked with making cartridge revolvers in the early 1870's, they had a huge inventory of 1860 Army percussion revolver parts. This Richards guy was told to make a cartridge conversion so they could stay in the market. He came up with the conversion ring behind the cylinder with a loading gate, took the loading lever off the barrel and filled the support with steel so there was no loading lever machinery in it. Colt sold 9,000 of these until about 1878. They were cheap to make, and 1/3 the price of an 1873 Model P Peacemaker.
I love the old time look, and the long barrel is way cool.

I remember looking through that V-notch in the hammer on one of the revolvers pictured on their web site. Quite an interesting way to sight down the barrel. The machining must be right on, too, to get it right.

Well, like other Henry folk, I'll be more than interested on how you like it, and how those Range Reports look also.

The 45 Long Colt is a SWEET, sweet, sweet caliber to shoot in s/a revolvers. Been there - done that! You and I already know that shooting 45s out of your rifle is FUN and they are a great classic caliber in rifles.

In Canada the mares leg is unclassified and same as any other lever action rifle. You can do what you like stock wise. Living at the mouth of the Stikine river Canada is about 25 miles up it but the town Telegraph Creek is 150 miles up for border crossing. When I cross the border my mares leg is a rifle not a handgun. Having a extra stock is not a problem, Think of T/C where you can have 6 rifle barrels and six pistol barrels with many pistol grip and different rifle stocks and just one receiver all in one case. You just don't want to put them together wrong for class three item.
