we just got word from back home that things have settled down and Elsa us headed for Virginia Beach .... enough wind to put a few trees down but none very close by

We hardly felt anything here in WNC. Just some rain overnite last night.

Rained 10 straight hours. Nothing to heavy. Heck, the creek out back did not even come close to over flowing. Heard from my crazy neighbor ( love her to death) that some trees were down in the ravine. I will go exploring, if I can get this body moving. Already on my third cup.

Elsa his working on NY and surrounding areas .... hopefully she will soon leave the US and die over a cold ocean

Tropical Depression Fred should come ashore sometime tomorrow morning with its eye over the Florida panhandle .... they are anticipating it to be a rain event .... "Along with the likelihood of flooding in urban and low-lying areas as well as gusty winds that can lead to sporadic power outages, there is the potential for isolated tornadoes and waterspouts to touch down. Isolated, dangerous and damaging tornadoes can spin up anywhere over the Keys or across Florida on Sunday. The risk will expand later Sunday to Monday to include the panhandle as well as southeastern Alabama and southwestern Georgia."

Fred cane ashore yesterday afternoon with wind gust of 65 mph and heavy rain .... its moved northward and is now in Georgia/Alabama near with Atlanta where it has spawned at least one tornado

heavy rain from Fred really worked on Western NC today .... many creeks flooded and mud slides were common .... west bound lane of I-40 closed due to a mud slide just west of Asheville .... the slide is supposed to be cleared by later today

Looks like Cancun is taking a beating right now. Now that thing will be in the gulf and gather strength.
Wonder which direction it will take now. If it turns north look out.

Didn't get much from Fred here but still the ol' hot and humid for August. Dew point was 80F yesterday! Wanted to go to the range area and cut grass today but don't have it in me to do it today. Rain tomorrow.

Hurricane Ida, after making landfall in western Cuba on Friday afternoon, was barreling into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. AccuWeather forecasters warned that Ida, headed over exceptionally warm waters, was likely to rapidly intensify and could even approach the U.S. coast as Category 4 hurricane. Meteorologists warned residents along the central Gulf Coast that time is running out to prepare for the storm or evacuate the storm's projected path.

Ida is forecast to hit around New Orleans about on the anniversary of Katrina.

it certainly could .... 16 years ago Katrina hit New Orleans .... sure hope Ida doesn't come close to the records set by Katrina

I'm about 250 miles N.E. of NOLA, so not expecting much here except rain. That said, these things usually spawn a number of short lived tornadoes that are basically unpredictable, so we'll be watching out for that.

Ida has developed an eye and increasing in strength. Look out NOLA.
JR have you looked at that one on the west coat of Mexico. That also looks bad.
Kind of unusual for a Pacific hurricane.

Ida's projected path has it covering NC and TN from the Atlantic to the Mississippi on Thursday morning .... that's really a stretch
