Great idea but could they sell enough to make a profit?

I would like to see them figure out a pump in .357 and .44 Mag. So long as they didn't try to make on the Colt Lightning style ,i think it would actually be reliable.

I think they have already make it! The new" Long Ranger" seems to be American Made competition for BLR. With a solid lock up , free floated barrel and a" stay put trigger". Along with Henry's fit and finish, excellent service reputation. I think this one will be a winner. Looking forward to the range reviews!

The trigger swings out with the lever so the shooter doesn't have to take his finger out of the trigger guard when levering in a fresh round.

Okay that makes sense. Did you know on the TV show The Rifleman that Chuck Connors did not remove his finger? Knowing that I've practiced and don't have to remove mine either.

It's a painful habit to get into.

Somewhere I read or heard that for the opening sequence of the Rifleman, the rifle's lever had a modification, a small metal rod that pushed the trigger rearward as soon as the lever was closed so all he had to do was open and close the action as fast as he was able. That made sense to me. Otherwise, Chuck had a very nimble and very fast trigger finger.

Chuck Connors was the first two pro-sport player. He played for the Boston Celtics and the then Brooklyn Dodgers. He practiced for hours with the rifle and was actually an excellent shot. In the opening credits of the pilot episode the rifle had not been modified yet. Interesting that he used a rifle made in 1892 but the show took place in 1881.

I'd like to see them chamber one of their "Large Caliber Rifles" for 460 S&W .... that would make one heck of a rifle/pistol combo for dangerous game

They already make rifles in 45-70 that will take care of most anything without the high chamber pressure.I think you have a 45-70.Most likely a .460 wouldn't be a big seller.

I don't think the 460 needs the large frame action. That could probably be done in a Big Boy. It's big but still a pistol cartridge.

that may well be the case .... the 460 does have the flexibility to fire 45 Colt and/or 454 shells along with the 460's ... in days where companion rifle and pistol combos seem to be experiencing a revival in popularity, it might increase the market for both .... we do have a 45-70 and find it to be a very capable round

on the down side, 460's usually have fast burning powder which lends itself to use in a pistol .... 45-70's usually are loaded with slower burning powder which lends itself to use in a rife ... that said, reloaders tend to be very innovative and I'm sure some of them would improve the efficiency of both calibers

I think that there is at least one single action revolver made in 45-70.

Winchester offers a lever action rifle in 460 ... they call it a Lever Action Model 90 Rifle 460 S&W .... http://www.bighornarmory.com/catalog/bi ... -casull-5/ ..... priced from $3,500 to almost $5,000 I'm pretty sure Henry could do a better job at a more reasonable price

Thanks for the Winchester notice. That one slipped by me. The Bighorn looks like a mostly hand fitted item so it is big $$$. You are right if H.R.A. took a hand in that caliber, it would be less $$. Who knows down the road what Henry has in store. It's nice to see an American company on the way up.

I never noticed a gap between 45-70 and 458 win mag that was large enough to need filling in. The 45-70 given the right rifle has potential to close the gap almost completely up. The 460 S&W runs at pressures levels that would make it unsuitable in a lever gun IMHO. The same is true for the 458 win. Both will see loads at 50,000 cup. I think the cut off for lever type actions is well below that, base upon non concentric locking mechanisms.

In my humble opinion the 45-70 is pushing the limits of lever guns (which I want one)and has caused much discussion on where the cup limits should be. This based upon a myriad of rifles out in the world chambered for this cartridge and the number of experimenters of same.

That is the reason for suggesting a very strong single shot falling block where the 45-70 could be loaded up to it's potential.

There is always the 450 Alaskan based on a blown out .348 case in a slightly modified Winchester 71.

After reading some posts on the HRF and elsewhere about the new Henry "Long Ranger," out of curiosity I did a search on the price today, and specifically looked for the .223 caliber. I know it's not released yet, but was surprised that I found 3-4 shops already advertising, and actually listing prices. Of course, they also listed the rifle as "Not Available." So there are LGS already working on sales/ads of these Henrys.

Henry's MSRP is right at $1015 for any of the three new calibers. One shop had the .223 model listed at $832; another at $776; yet another at $809; and of course found one at the full M.S.R.P. of $1015. So the prices are definitely adjusted out there. Will be interesting to see what finally happens and where the costs settle.

I am sure that the first few months that the new rifle is in stock, the prices will most likely be what the traffic will bear.
