45-70 first shots fired
New Henry 45-70 first shots fired. Put a skinner sight on before ever firing with the buckhorns. Fired at 50 yds from a bench rest early this morning. Used Winchester super X 300 grain right out of the box. Bottom picture is with no sight adjustment and first rounds through this weapon. Top picture is after a very minor adjustment to the skinner sights. 4 rounds on each target. Granted I used a rest and fired from the bench, but I think this is exceptional with 69 year old eyes and tri-focals

Re: 45-70 first shots fired
Congrats on the 45-70. That's some nice shooting for 69 yr old eyes with iron sights. I can't do that with 62 yr old eyes. That rifle was almost dead on after the skinner sight was installed - did you bore sight it? Did you also replace the front sight?

Re: 45-70 first shots fired
No bore sighting and no front sight change. Just installed the sights and went to the range. I smiled a lot and thought that after those 8 shots, I'd better quit
I will add that the recoil surprised me. I didn't notice it at all.
