^^^^^^^^

I have a Lee Bulge Buster in 40 cal that I used to use when loading 40 S&W brass fired in a Glock. I believe the Bulge Buster die is specifically designed for that purpose. I use Lee Factory Crimp Dies for handgun loads which does a second full length sizing when applying the crimp. Not sure if Lee makes a FCD in 45/70 or not.

Ohh, what/where is the little bubble? .45-70 correct?
Yeah 4570 and the crimp caused the mouth of the shells to bubble out a little too much on a couple of them
Hmm. Lee makes a die called, I believe, the "Bulge Buster" just for that purpose. Have never used one, but, have read about it.I'd look into that or figure out what exactly caused the bulge.
Edit: It doesn't look like Lee makes one for the 45-70. Damn! Research time.
Hey thanks for that info! I have a Lee Factory Die (bought off of Big Al) that I'm going to try next. Just doesn't work on my shorter Hornady brass but am gonna use on my regular 45-70 reloads :-)

So there isn’t enough thread length to reach that shorter brass KMB. Seems to me it should be able to handle that those cases are about .020 or .030 shorter if I remember correctly

Kmb, I just read on the Lee website for 45-70, they have two FCD's; one for standard length 45-70 cases, the othe for the "LeverEveluyion" cases, which are shorter. The standard one will NOT work with the shorter cases.

Well that answers that question thanks Tom. Id had never tried any of those shorter cases as I thought if I was going to use that ammo I would just buy it. No more than I would be using.

Yeah I did research that out. Didn't know there was a second die - I'll be grabbing that one
The RCBS cowboy dies work great on the Hornady shorties!

I'm taking these guys to the range today...
black ringed primers are IMR 4895 (1400 fps I think) and the others are IMR 4180 (1800 fps)
There was just enough room for that length
