Help!

Thought I was in the zone with my Hornady 325 grain FMJ bullets with 50.5 grains of IMR 4895 but I was going off of data that had lead bullets listed and just learned lead and FMJ are way different. I feel underpowering these can't possibly hurt (because 50.5 Gs is still a bit or a wallop) but now I'm fearful of problems. Stuck bullets, booms, etc.

Glad I only made 9 of these for testing.
I'm not taking these to the range until I hear otherwise.

Well lead bullet loads are usually lower because of leading issues and pushing them to fast. Lead will go through the bore faster. Ive shot jacketed before with lead bullet info and never had an issues. Are you using those for plinkin loads?

Just a good softer target load.

It doesn’t hurt to have a bullet puller on hand, most of us reloader have one. There are two types, a kinetic type which is like a hammer that you place the cartridge into and pound it down on a hard surface to dislodge the bullet. Another type is the collet type that uses your press. You lower a collet onto the bullet, tighten the collet and pull the bullet with the stroke of your press handle. I have both but greatly prefer the collet type. Less deformation of the bullet and 100% recovery of the powder for re-use. This is also possible with the kinetic type but it is not as convenient. I’ll come back and add links to both types. The collet type in the link shows a collet but this price is w/o collet so if you order one of these be sure to order the collet too.

If you really want to use that bullet and powder combination, I would track down the latest edition of Hornady's reloading manual. Since it's their bullet, you should find something in there that will be helpful. I have an old version of the manual (from 1982) and it does not list that bullet at all. It only list's a 300 gr and 350 gr. metal jacket bullet. You are in the middle of the range for a 350 gr. bullet, so I see no worry about a stuck bullet or a kaboom.

Ok I shot three Hornady loads and they hit nice and tight. Couldn't lock in the next grizzly loads - For whatever reason the lever wouldn't close. Had a panic attack thinking my bolt seared off some material and came home thinking there was a MAJOR problem and those loads $%&#ed up my rifle. Turns out my bolt is supposed to look like this and my grizzly loads were a tad long and for whatever reason messed up the cycling. Live and learn I guess but I'm really glad nothing is wrong. Strangest day at the range to date.

I measured every single round when I got home. They were perfect 2.55" total length. They only looked long because my factory bear loads are shorter by .15 when I compared them at the range. Weird. Whatever happened soon will be yesterdays news (thank god) and my rifle is perfect. Only shot 12 rounds before I packed up. Was so distraught I didn't track or take pics of the target.

The extra length and Ogive on the bullet may of had something to do with that. I ran into that on mine. Some chambers are just a little tighter.

I just wish I would have slowed down and took everything apart at the range. I really thought it was going to the gunsmith -

OK here is what happened... my first two crimping attempts on the Grizzy loads (I think my first crimping ever) was too much and bubbled out the shell a tad. This caused the round to get stuck in the chamber and not seat all the way creating this whole mess - whew I'm glad I figured that out because I'm really scratching my head on the lengths of the rounds. They all fell in the parameters of being OK

Well if it makes you feel any better you arent the only one who has done that. Those dies only roll crimp. The Lee Factory crimp dies roll and taper some at the same time. You can take that loaded round you have and either pull it or run it up in that lee die and probably take out bubble enough to chamber that round.

I'm also going to use the Lee for the next batch of Missouri and Grizzly
I tried to use it on the shorty Hornady but won't work
