NH, wish we were closer I'd swap ya a lb of 4895 for that 4350.
That's what I use in my buddies 270, and I'm all but out.

RP
Vaquero, hmmm...I guess all I'd have to do is tell my wife that a drive down to Memphis is a vacation and that swapping one pound of powder with a fellow reloader was only a coincidence!

Made up those 18 .243 Win. trial loads with the IMR4831, but I only had 90 grain Sierra FMJ not the usual 85 grain HP GameKings. I think it'll be close enough. When I find some 85's I'll double check.

Loaded up 200 rounds of 45 Colt. Have a friend coming over Sunday and he's never fired a 45 Colt round. Plan is to take him to the range and introduce him to a lever gun and single action pistol.

Good plan Paul. It's a fun round to shoot and If he's like a few folks I introduced to the .45 Colt, he'll love it too.

I had 8 large rifle primers left, so I filled 8 45-70 cases with Pyrodex and topped them off with some 350 grain cast bullets. At least I can make a bit of smoke.
Really need some more primers.

Cleaning Hornady 45-70 brass for no particular reason since they are shorties.
I'm gonna have a ton of questions when attempting to reload with the rubber pointed FTX bullets (if even possible).

KMB, You'll be fine. Lots of 45-70 veterans here to help if needed. (I've never loaded 45-70, but I've seen how folks on this thread help others...so I guess I'm offering other people's help!!!! )

I loaded up 20 rounds of .308 Win. using BLC-2 under 165 grain Game Kings. Headed out next week to empty them!

Well, after my little range session yesterday afternoon, I loaded 50 rounds of 44 mag.,
using 9.0 grs. of Unique with the 240 gr. MB Smasher. Should work fine on the backyard gongs.
While I had the Unique out I loaded the last 15 pieces of 38-55 brass that was primed.
Another good plinker for the gongs.

Id like to hear what that new gong sounds like. I might order the round one for myself. Since I already have the big buffalo I dont think I would get the one you have.

Al, I almost bought that one, but I wanted one I can see a little farther away.
Looking for materials to make a portable stand, something a little taller than the one I made last year.
Then I may order one of those for the back yard.

I hear and read a lot about Unique in a lot of different calibers, rifle and pistol. Seems you need 1/3 or even 1/4 of what you would usually use in other powders. So is that OK to have all of that air space in the cartridge? Do they ever misfire?

I use Unique in .45 Colt, .45 auto and .38 spl. Works real well in those. But, in a .45-70 case, I'll let the guys here who load those give you the complete answer. That'a a good size case.

Like Tom I don'toad for that round either.
I do load 444, but I'm not sure if I have ever used Unique in it or not, not at home so I don't have access to notes.
BUT, as much as I use it in a variety of pistol and other rifle calibers im pretty sure I tried it with some cast at sometime.

Unique will work in 45-70. I think I tried in the 13 to 14 range. The Lyman cast boolit handbook should have some info in it. I also used 16gr of Universal clays with some 300gr pills and had good luck with that load. Unique isnt position sensitive. You will find guys who use a sheet of tp in the case but its not necessary. I used nothing. Also you might check out https://www.shootersproshop.com/. These guys have the nosler 300gr on sale a factory seconds at times. https://www.shootersproshop.com/loading ... jax/1.html. JeBar uses the ballistic silver tip and I tried some also. They shoot real well.

Thanks! and good to know — don't know if I'll find any any time soon but I'll grab some. Probably gonna reload my .357 brass one day. Sticking to one caliber for now :-)
