H009 Bonding Sessions

Post by GFK » Mon Aug 02, 2021 11:57 am

I made it to the range last weekend and this weekend. Between the two, I shot around 45 rounds. Did not plan to shot that many. But, the first session's POI seemed different than 2020's. I found that a wooden rifle support response different than a sandbag. In addition, I found that the RPP Cloverleaf peep sight's insert has play, if the set screws are not snug. Since no corrects could be applied using the adjustment, there was no tension on the insert (there is tension now). If I could apply some correction, it would be windage. Being the case, I could either draft the front post a bit or try different sighting setup. At this point, I will keep what I got. At any rate, below is what I ended up with.

Being off to the left a bit at 50 and 100 yards is more of me than anything else, due to lack of defined focus point. I probably will try a target with a bright red center next time, as last year. Yet, this year's is probably more realistic. I suspect very few deer will have a bright red spot, prior to being shot.

Yeah, there aren’t many deer like Hal. Far Side reference.

I tried the Ranger Point clover leaf and found it quite lacking for my poor skills. I called them and had them send me a .050 peep. I haven't tried it as of yet on my Marlin 1894 45 Cot but I'm sure I'll print quite a lot better with it. If not, I'll get a Williams or Marbles.

Thanks! I am interested in the results. I chose the Cloverleaf because of the optic reference. But who knows, a traditional peep may work better. I have not tried one. So, I have no idea.

All I could get with the clover leaf was a six inch spread at 50 yards. Not good. The opening is just too big. It might be okay for woods hunting where acquisition is a factor.

Understood. I figure that if I can shoot an 8" spread from center at @ 100 yards, I should be okay, which seems to vary, based on the target used. The further I went out in range, the greater to the left and the spread got, when using the solid color silhouette. I may try a transitional peep, for comparison? Thanks!

I’ve always liked traditional peeps. I bet your group will shrink.
