Sounds like the time to sit back and re-group. Nothing gained, nothing lost. These large life decisions take a lot of time and thought. I don't feel there is any rush for you. As I said before, when in doubt...don't. You will know when the right place/situation arises. Don't take the chance of making a regrettable decision. Kick back in that teardrop, if that's what it takes. You might be surprised by your own conclusions. Take your time, don't pollute your decision process with too much input.
Best of luck for your future happiness!!!
I need to keep marching forward without making any decisions. I have a lot of work to do to get the house ready. Then starting the last week of August I take a 28 day trip to TX and back. That’s when I’ll kickback.

It’s mostly three counties on the west coast that allows looting which is what I want to leave. Move east of the mountains and it’s completely different.

Not to get political but those 3 counties have a big majority of the state's population so they can pass laws, referendums and initiatives for the whole state.

I could stay in Washington. All I really need to do is leave the Seattle area.

If you pick up the first one I could sing to you, “since we’re neighbors lets be friends”.

Deer Park has at least four coffee shops of which two come highly recommended by my wife the Mocha queen. You would have a nice short level bike ride into town from that location. I’m about three miles east of town and you would be on the north side. A few miles north is a DNR parcel that is used by many as a shooting range. No charge but it’s gated so you have to hike in a short distance. Not too bad unless you’re bringing lots of stuff. I use a folding dock cart on pneumatic tires to haul my stuff in when I use it.

Deer Park to Nine Mile was my old stomping ground. As teenagers we would get drunk and camp almost anywhere there wasn’t a house. I rolled a stolen car when I was 16 not to far from that house.

I’m driving over tomorrow to see this one.

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3340 ... 9429_zpid/

It’s about the same size as what I have now and I will be able to park everything inside including my teardrop which I will be pulling. I’m too cheap to pay $350 for a room. I’ll stay at a truck stop and shower for $12.

This house is heated with a heat pump and a wood burning stove. I wonder if the pump can keep up with a Montana winter. It is all electric with no propane or natural gas.

The kitchen is kind of odd and needs an island but other than that this plan fits my needs. Everything is on the main floor.

You must have been around for the old Deer Park Airport drag strip. A little before my time but the Chevy dealer in Deer Park hosts a reunion car show every year that is well attended. Even some old school cars from back when the strip was open. Funny story about the car you rolled…….oh us in our youth.

Yes I’ve been to the drags many times. I saw a Double A Fueler break 180mph there and thought they can’t go any faster

I looked at three properties yesterday. The first one was in Fortine which is on the side of nowhere. I would say middle but that implies it’s somewhere.

The nearest latte is four miles away if they feel like opening. Same with the local breakfast spot. It’s currently closed while the owners are on vacation. Gas is 12 miles away as is a convenient store.

Kalispell is about an hour away and that is where the best groceries come from. When I was camping I talked to a couple with two kids and they were from Fortine. They knew the owners of the house I was looking at. They told me the biggest problem is fresh food in the winter. The valley can get fogged-in in the winter and you might not see the sun for two weeks. Most people will take a drive because if you go up 200 feet you are in sunshine.

The thing that I noticed the most was almost every house had an American flag or huge 4X8 foot sign supporting their 2020 presidential candidate. We can’t talk politics here but it seems most people there will and do. It’s refreshing to talk to someone that believes like I do.

As far as shooting I’m believing I can shoot on the property. The camping people I talked to said they hear shooting almost daily especially from one house. They don’t like the noise but said it’s Montana and to expect it at least around Fortine.

This picture was taken near the house. I saw four bucks hanging around one doe. It’s a common sight and if you drive 20 miles you will see 100 deer. They are abundant. I was told during hunting season to expect to hear gunfire from places you don’t hear before.

Any drive in a state or federal forest will show you places people have been shooting. You can shoot anywhere it’s safe and not posted. They only post in areas where people dump trash. The talk I hear is shoot anywhere but don’t leave trash. This area has no home garage service that I know about. Instead they have “green boxes” scattered where you can dump for free. Instead of serving 200 homes they have a dozen collection spots.

I really liked that house and property but I can see where the long drives to civilization could be a hard adjustment to make especially after living in King County. My place is pretty rural but it's a 5 minute drive to town. Wenatchee traffic is really not bad as long as you stay away from the 3 bridges going into and out of town during morning and afternoon rush hours. I mention the traffic being bad to a guy that retired over here from King County and he just laughs at me. I would go crazy dealing with the Seattle traffic.

We get fogged in here too, I used to snowmobile and we'd go up the mountain roads and all of sudden the sun was shining and you'd be taking your coat off.

This home is about 1/2 mile away from the one I’m looking at. Notice the flag. Almost every house in this area has one.

Gene, our lake is surrounded mostly by impassable bogs, so there are only six homes on the lake. We can paddle up the feeder stream and paddle for over an hour and see not a single home or sign of civilization. Yet, we are only 3 miles from town and all our shopping, medical services and restaurants. Such places do exist, but you have to really hunt for them. Hope you find such a place.
