Claudette has shown that it doesn't have to be a big Hurricane to cause damage .... the picture below shows damage from a tornado in East Brewton, Alabama, as Claudette moved inland.

Saw that and lots of flooding on the news this morning. Good point on a storm not categorized as a hurricane causing horrible damage.

"By Saturday, the system had strengthened enough to be given the name Claudette, becoming the third named storm of the 2021 season. The storm struck along the U.S. Gulf Coast and killed at least 13 people in the Southeast."

Yes, crazy weather here Jim. Yesterday we almost hit 90 degrees and had a brief shower. Today, we're only supposed to get to mid 70's with off and on showers all day.

Tropical Storm Danny is set to move in between Charleston and Savannah .... its carrying a threat of heavy rain with flash flooding .... the good news is it isn't expected to be a threat for significant wind damage

Hurricane Elsa formed over the waters of the Atlantic Ocean early Friday just west of the Caribbean island of Barbados, one day after the system became the fifth-named storm of 2021.... long range predictions take it moving through our home area during the middle of next week

the projected path Elsa will take seems to have stabilized but just how strong it will be once it hits south Florida continues to be something of a mystery .... it has slowed down which isn't a good thing but it has weakened and become a bit more disorganized

If you look at Cuba it almost looks like there are two low pressure areas merging into one.
Strange.

My job involved working with the Weather Bureau and in all my years I have not seen a hurricane
that looks like this. It's over Cuba and perhaps the mountains are breaking it up some, but it will
move over open water again and strengthen before it hits Florida.

That sucker may look disorganized, but its gathering power.
Looks to me like it's heading right for the Keys and Miami.

OK, now it's starting to organize again. You can see the eye. I'll bet Cuba is catching hell.

mostly cloudy, 58 degrees with it supposed to get up to 74 later today where we are camped in Estelline, SD .... good chance of rain during the late afternoon .... sure hope it develops, this area could really use several inches of rain .... regular breakfast with Folgers still flowing .... not much on tap for the rest of today
