Where are the handguns?
We stopped at our LGS, this afternoon and, once again, I was shocked at the shortage of guns and ammo, but especially the shortage of handguns. Talked to our good friend the owner, and he said the rifle supply is getting a bit better, but handguns, especially revolvers, are still in very short supply. Apparently, the gun markers are concentrating on semi-autos, due to the greater demand, compared to revolvers.
Ammo is still pretty bleak. He had one brick of Aquila 22 LR that the was selling per box of 50. Otherwise, no rimfire ammo of any kind.
Kind of spooky, folks.

spooky indeed ....
Re: Where are the handguns?
Same here for handguns and rimfire is touch and go but I did see some rimfire online in a few places yesterday. Did not pay any attention as I have enough for now.
Re: Where are the handguns?
It's been a while since I looked at the 2 LGS's I mostly frequent but last time I was there, their handgun selection was pretty bleak. One of them must have just gotten a shipment from S&W as they had quite a few Shield EZ's in 380 and 9mm. The FFL that Langdon shipped my PX4c to a couple of weeks ago had a fair selection of pistols and several revolvers (one was a S&W 500, first time I had seen one in person, I don't think I would ever want to shoot one, too big).
Shoot Straight, a pretty big outfit in Florida has a couple pages of semi-autos but only 3 revolvers, a Ruger22 and a couple of Colts.

I should remember to take a few pics of the gun counters at a couple local shops. Ammo is still expensive and is generally being rationed, but the handgun counters are full, including revolvers, all the usual brands and models, and some high end gats such as Desert Eagles. Ditto for long guns.

Re: Where are the handguns?
When I bought my Cimarron back 5 or so weeks ago, they had more used handguns than new ones.
I haven't been back in any gun store since though.

Hardware store here still has large pistol primers. Cabelas had a few handguns and ammo shelves looked ok.

When I was selling I sold mostly long guns. Pistols are smaller and you can have far more in the same amount of space.

Re: Where are the handguns?
Supplies around here are picking up. I was speaking to the owner of an air conditioner company at the inspection station this morning. He said Freon was over $800/jug these days. He said suppliers were blaming the pandemic. I guess primers aren't the only item affected by "shortages".

Re: Where are the handguns?
More firearms in the shops, but most places are asking prices above MSRP. Found a new Henry H001L carbine and the shop wanted $449.95 for it. Henry's MSRP is $419.95. In a pawn shop nearby I found a used Henry H001 in fair condition and they were asking $399. As for ammo, some rifle ammo is showing up on the shelves and also some 9mm but prices are still very high. One shop had some small & large rifle primers, some shotgun primers and he had less than 1000 between the three. No pistol primers anywhere

This June, there were 1,279,300 background checks for the sale of a gun, that explains a little.

It also helps explain the ammo situation, if we take a guess that a new firearm purchase would normally include at least one box of ammo - anywhere from say 20 rnds to 500rnds per purchase, depending on caliber and potential training class requirements and/or personal proficiency desires for some percentage of buyers, among other factors.
