think I got it now.
Hi all after working on loads for my 357 mags. and 38 spl. using Unique and not really getting what I want I went to a powder that I also have and that is HP 38. I loaded up five of my 38spl. 125 gr bullets with 4.5 of the HP38 and took them out today to shoot. Out of the five the hi was 1082 and the low was 1012 the rest was in the 1050 range. I was hitting the paper good but found out the sights are a little to to left. I think I will just stay with that maybe drop the powder down a little Now all I have to do is work on my 357 mags.

These are with cast or plated bullets? If so, those look to be good. Agree with dropping powder a bit. What are you planning for .357?
Re: think I got it now.
that was with plated but I do have some LSWC that are 158 gr. and as for 357 mag I was thinking 4.5 with the 158 LSWC.

I just looked at the Hodgdon site and that 158 lswc and 4.5gr HP38 is a max charge. 3.5 is the start charge, so there's the variance.
You seem to be on the right track. What didn't the Unique load do for you?

I just finished a batch of .357 Mag using the 158 XTP HP bullet with 13.6 of Alliant 2400. A low end Mag load but still should be effective and will do some tests with them in ballistic gel soon. Should be a milder load to shoot in a revolver and great in the Henry.

Re: think I got it now.
I tend to load at the start levels or just above. I'm not a benchrest shooter and don't hunt any more. I just want to go out and shoot. I conserve powder that way. I used to be into exact loads, etc. but that day has long passed. As long as they go "BOOM" is mostly what I care about.
