You bet. However the more I read about the 1860 Richards Mason Colt the more I like it. It's the one I played with most at the gun show. 8" barrel. It has the rear sight in the hammer but I looked through several times and it seemed ok.

They are very old-timey and all reviews I've read say they are great fun to shoot. Anyhow, I'm happy to finally be getting my updated license!

many years ago I fired a couple of similar open top replicas .... they belonged to a friend, one was black powder (cap and ball) and the other was designed a modern type shell .... I wan to say they were 44 caliber but I could be wrong about that .... they did have the V-rear sight cut into the hammer .... no negative memories and as I recall they shot well .... I do remember that the way they reacted to recall was different ... the black powder had less barrel jump and the grip didn't roll as much in my hand .... really looking forward to your range reports .... question, if/when you should decide to buy another pistol, would you have to go through the same process again ??

Thanks. It's a big deal to me to pick the right one, so I usually end up going with my gut feel. I handled lots of the ones at the gun show, but kept picking up the Richards Mason over and over, and went back to the table several times after walking around looking at all the stuff there. Kinda like with my Henry, I originally was looking at the 44 mag Big Boy and for several months that was the one, but once I started checking into the 45 Colt it just felt right to me. Nothing wrong with any of the other calibers, but just not me. I guess the reason I'm waffling a little on the revolver is because I had never even considered a pre-peacemaker revolver until I saw them at the gun show. But they drew me like a magnet.

If you are referring to the license; no. Once you have your Non-Restricted / Restricted firearms license here you just have to renew on-line before it expires. Mine is good for a few years.

I've looked at many of the Gunblast evals, and the gent Quinn seems to be quite direct in his gun reviews/appraisals. (A little like Hickok45).

A big Hickok45 fan, but I can't remember him ever really critical of a gun. I even remember one, I think it "may" have been a Remlin lever job, completely jam on him and he had to take use his pocket knife to extract an unfired cartridge, and he was still more or less praising the gun.

I really think he is just a positive person.

Checked out the 1860 Richards Mason Colt Gunblast review just now. Never have seen a hammer-notch revolver rear sight. Quinn said it was authentic; it does look cool, and my knee-jerk is how well does it work with that sight? But his target reports were impressive, and he gave high marks to the revolver's accuracy with the sight.

Often times "authentic old" is a good thing.

So have much fun making your final choice.

If you are referring to the license; no. Once you have your Non-Restricted / Restricted firearms license here you just have to renew on-line before it expires. Mine is good for a few years.

In Canada, non-restricted are most rifles and shotguns, and restricted are handguns. Rifles don't have to be registered but handguns do.

Anyhow, sorry for posting this stuff in the morning coffee thread...tomorrow I'm back to talking about my tea mug and the weather.

While drinking my double mocha out of my Henry mug, and looking over our Forums about 7AM this morning, I felt an unusual "movement" in my head. It continued for several seconds, and then I glanced at my den window mini blinds, and they were swaying side-to-side. Yup, it was that earthquake reaching to KCMO from Pawnee, OK. It definitely "rattled" our area.

It registered on the RS at about 5.6 magnitude. I felt one other earthquake back in the late 60s. Both times it left me with that odd and uneasy feeling of "no control."

Was an interesting start to the day!

Morning everyone, a beautiful weekend predicted for this area with low humidity and sunshine. I have been watching the webcams from North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland beaches and it really is an angry ocean with the storm surge coming all the way up to the dunes and the surf and whitecaps are terrific due to this hurricane and tropical storm. I have spent a lot of time there on summer vacations. It is supposed to stall off the Jersey coast which will be bad for homes close to the shore and for beach erosion. My wife's two sisters, who live in North Carolna, have no power, but they do have generators. But, fortunately, it will not be as bad as hurricane Sandy was. But we are to be back in the heat and humidity by Wednesday.

thankfully, Hurricane Hermine tracked to the east and spared our part of NC from any significant damage .... haven't heard the rain total but it came at a post that it soaked in and didn't cause much runoff ... we are happy to see her go, hope the projections of it strengthening and giving the Northeast a bad time prove to be wrong

Coffee this morning, percolated in my newly acquired Corningware 9 cup percolator. It's as good a percolator as I've heard for years. I found one in a new shop on the way home from camp last weekend. It is the traditional cornflower design. It made a very nice cup of coffee.

I had a busy day yesterday. I hope today is a bit more relaxing. Doubtful.

Looks like a beautiful Labor Day Weekend here and the good news for people at the beach is that the tropical storm has moved out to sea sooner than expected. So other than some strong rip currents it should be good beach weather with conditions improving for now.

I got it from Netflix and liked it, but it was one bloody film. The director did some amazing shots and the cinematography was excellent. The landscape is beautiful.

Coffee at home with my dog is nice! Spent the last few days travelling for work and for family stuff. I always enjoy visiting Western Pennsylvania but it's nice to be home.
