28 Years

Post by BrokenolMarine » Wed May 12, 2021 11:32 pm

Wow... :)

Today Miss T and I have been married twenty eight years, together twenty nine. Not bad since everyone said it wouldn't last six months. "Blended families never do.". Heard that over and over. Funny thing is, most of THOSE couples aren't together any longer.

Our secret? Respect. She and I are friends. We argue... That vents. But, it doesn't go on and on. Hard to argue with me anyway. Marine Corps, then long LE career. I state my case, listen to yours... Done. You can keep talking, but I'm out.

No long drawn out, day long arguments. Those can be very destructive, and tend to open old wounds for more ammo. ;) So, you say, I say, done.

Nearly thirty years.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

And now....

I can't hear...
Years working on helos with turboshaft jet engines and turning rotors.
Years coaching and competing on the range.
Tina bought me a t-shirt...

"Huh?

Hard to argue with someone who isn't listening.
(Oops, I mean, can't hear you.)

I'm 80 and Carol and I are going on 26 years. We were both single raising our kids for a long time. Me 17 years, her 13 years.
I find that your rules work for us as well. One more rule that I like is to never go to sleep with your anger.
I guess the other one that I learned the hard way is not to marry a woman who is not your best friend to start with.

Congrats Marine and Miss Tina. Always remember that it takes two to tango! My better half and I passed our 43rd back this January. Don't know if I could survive another 43!

Next anniversary will be #50.
The secret is... sometime in the first year decide who's going to be the boss.
From then on, just do what she says!
