LGS visit

Post by Headhog » Sat Apr 24, 2021 10:53 pm

Stopped by the gun shop where I picked up my BBS at August of last year. He usually has a fair selection of new and used firearms, but as expected his shelves were pretty lean. He did have a few lever guns out both new and used. He had 3 new Henry's, but no side gates. Since he's a Henry dealer I asked him if he's got any coming in. Said he's expecting some next week, but they were already spoken for. Based on his back log requests, it will be summer before he has some for the shelves.

Since Marlin's are not available the shop is selling Henry's like hot cakes. He expected the 3 he had in stock to be gone by next weekend. I believe him since a fella that came in after me picked up a Henry BBS 327 Fed. Mag carbine and had nothing but a big smile on his face. My guess is he bought it after I left.

I haven't been to my favorite LGS since last year. I'm hoping they figure out a way to allow customers in. They had curbside service only last year.

I haven't seen a sidegate Henry either Paul. I might buy the first one I see if it's in a caliber I can use.

All the gun store I've been to this year are pretty much open for business as usual. Most folks are not wearing masks, but about 25% still are.

I'm on the hunt for a BBS side gate in 45 Colt. I really want a carbine, but would probably settle for a 20" if the price was right.

I went to my LGS last week for the first time in 2 years.

It was depressing seeing the shop with maybe 15-20% of goods to sell from the normal level.

I spoke with the owner and he told me he had received a $1M load of ammo this year and it was all gone within a couple weeks.

He has ordered more but he just can't get any...Sad day for his business.

He has the demand for product but can't fill his shelves.

My lgs has the single action revolver, double action revolvers and semi auto pistol display counters filled with rifle barrels for the builders. Looks better than the empty counters. Boxes stacked up behind counters from internet sales and transfers.

Was in my lgs yesterday; had a side gate 38-55 there that I tried to work a trade for. They had brass and bullets for it, and I have some primer and powder. Unfortunately, couldn’t make the trade work, but I am working on plan B.

Keep working that trade. I'll bet you'll find a way to make it come out good.

Alas, went to the lgs yesterday, and the rifle had been sold. Day late and a few dollars short.

My last visit to my LGS found a Henry Lever, already forgot the model number H001T maybe? Smooth and nice, a little heavy but doggone fun to shoot. They have a sign on the door that says if you enter wearing a mask we assume yu are robbing us. That day was a rainy Saturday morning and it was wall to people, at least 4 or 5 were filling out the purchase forms at any given time.

As reported in another thread picked up a new Ruger Blackhawk .22lr/.22WMR convertible on sale at the LGS Friday. They're not price gouging at all there and gave me the cash price plus and extra 5% off for paying cash. Ammo seemed to be in fairly good supply as well. Going to a LGS across town later today to see if they have primers. I heard a rumor they did but were limiting customers to two sleeves. The general wants to look for a .308 for some reason.

Very nice find Shakey. I've been keeping my open for a Ruger like that.
