A near-beer now and a tea later on. My wife is coming with me for a ride in the forestry reserve so may have to photos to share, other than the usual 2 horse ears at the bottom of the frame.

I returned from camp tonight. I have just finished getting all the coming back work done. At camp, it was not relaxing. Too much work to do. I did get away to visit a State owned camp called Santanoni. It was built in the 1890's for a wealthy family from Albany NY. It was later sold to a wealthy family from Syracuse NY. After a tragedy at the preserve, it was sold or given to the State. It was a neat experience for sure. I'll post pictures at a later date. I'm tired and having a Canadian whiskey then off to bed.

Afternoon cold beer after trimming a couple of overgrown holly trees in 98 degree heat. I thought about posting this in the Knife forum. It is a good North Carolina brewery owned by some Army and Navy veterans.

Good day today. Rode in the high country all morning and out to the rifle range this afternoon. Guess I better do some work around home one of these days.

Quiet dinner at home tonight. May have enjoyed one too many last night....

Evening tea, and watched a huge storm pass through. Thunder, fork lightning and heavy rain. Here's a pic of our pump house looking east just as the stormm rolled in and the last light was on the hills.

That's a really pretty photo, thanks. Just a couple of beers tonight and watching a few ball games. The Yanks are losing right now but their season has been rather poor at times this year. But for the Royals fans that are here, and that is who they are playing tonight, it is a good night and I am happy that they are happy. That is one thing that I have learned through the years; it's a game, America's pass time, the summer game, a few hours to escape from any troubles you may have and enjoy the game. I could never understand the word hate when it comes to someone not liking another team. Rivalry, intense maybe, but a game to be enjoyed by fans of the game. That's why I become dismayed with some people at the Eagles games who start a fight with fans of the other team. Beer often has a lot to do with it. Sure, I like to see the Yankees win, I have been a fan since the days of Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra. And of the Phillies since the days of Robin Roberts and Richie Ashburn. And I wish that I still had some of the memorabilia that I had back in the 1950's, but it's long gone, including some baseball cards from those years. But, I do have some today that I plan to hang on to for a long time.

I'm also watching some baseball tonight. Thought the Pirates could steal one from Arrieta and the Cubs but they are keeping it close in the 9th inning....

Just having a couple beers tonight. There is a large storm front moving in from western Pennsylvania which will be much needed rain. Should be here in about an hour. We had a nice thunderstorm this afternoon. Watching the Pirates and the Cubs.

Sadly I never got to know him as much as I would have liked to. He came down with dementia at a young age and wasn't quite himself after the age of 60. He grew up in a blue collar town outside of Pittsburgh called Jeannette. After high school he joined the Air Force where he worked on a crew loading weapons onto aircraft. Following his service and tour in Vietnam he worked for General Tire in a manufacturing plant. From what I understand he was always a drinker and tended to find himself in fist fights more than most. All of that aside he raised some great children (my father being one) and created a decent life for his family. I really wish I could have known him better.

Glad you shared about your grandfather with us Henry folk, JCN.
What you typed was, from my view, a most honest and moving tribute to your grandfather.
I especially appreciated your sharing of his commitment to family. Easy to see why you "really wish you could have known him better."

That Angry Orchard looks good, I have seen it advertised but never had the opportunity to try it. Having a Rolling Rock beer tonight and watching the preseason game between the Eagles and the Jets. It finally is not humid and I took the chihuahua for a nice walk earlier tonight. She knows when it's about time to go for a walk and sits in front of me and looks at me until I get up and put her leash and harness on.
