Drinking water curiosity

We are on a well at 340 ft. and the water is great. Neighbor across from me must be on the same aquifer since his well is about the same depth and water is great. The next house toward the main road has a well at 170 ft. but needs a water softener. He always complains about the water taste. We have friends from Virginia Beach on city water that only drinks bottled water, unless they come to stay with us. They love our well water.

In Georgia we were on city water which came from deep wells from the county. Water quality was very good and similar in taste to our present well water.

We think we're living on borrowed time, were told the average life of submersible pumps is 15 years, ours was put in in 1986.

Our pump was installed when the house was built in 1977. It finally gave up the ghost last year and we
had a new one installed. Stainless Steele, fancy. It cost around $1400.00 installed.
I can run all the water I want and never run out.

Well water here, however because of all of the gold and sliver mining in the area, we only use it to bathe, dishes, clothes, etc. Water tests fine, but we know there are residual contaminants in the aquifer. I"m with Dave 77, buy gallon jugs of purified water for coffee and cooking.
I have a reverse osmosis system, just have not gotten around to putting it in.

We are also on Well Water. We run it straight, no filters, no softeners or anything else. It's great quality water and we are just lucky to have it. Our depth is 165 and we have water at 140. Our neighbor's well is not that far from ours and it's horrible. Turn on the outside faucet and it is pure orange. I really don't believe it's iron, but good 'ol red mud. I don't know how she lived there all those years.

Besides the quality we are also lucky enough to have the abundance. We had a bad drought around here back in '02. People's wells were drying up everywhere. Ours ran fine. Now the crazy story. We had to drain our pool for repairs right in the middle of it. Once we were done, I told my wife we got 3 choices. Either buy water at $250 a tanker load (would have needed 2), skip it and have no pool till next year, or just use our well. Well, she said that she did not want to pay $500 and she didn't want to skip it, so...

I ran it 8 hours on and 16 off for about 3 days till it filled up every bit of the 13,000 Gallons it required. I told my friend, who was nursing every glass of water at his house, what we did and the only two words he could mutter out was "you're crazy".

markiver54, any way you can bring a bunch of 5 Gallon jugs to your cabin to fill up and bring home?

I don't think though, that I could bring enough back to last the winter though. We are always packed to the gills.
Guess I'll just keep buying the bottled for here in the city.

We are on City water. It's not bad but a little hard. We use it for coffee but buy bottled water to drink. I'd drink tap water if needed. We have two huge reservoirs here within a few miles. Im not sure which one we get our water from.

if you ever need a new one spend extra for a Goulds stainless. ours has been running for 26 years with no issues in a 300 ft well with a 9 ' static level.
