Extreme ammo failure today

Post by Oldbrass » Sat Apr 03, 2021 5:31 pm

Went shooting today with my ol pal Dave, he was shooting this factory ammo in his taurus 9mm and this happened. Took some doing to extract, he said it felt like a real load. Double powder charge maybe. His taurus was not damaged.

Dang! I would certainly write/call the ammo company and let them know. Include the lot#.

that isn't a manufacture I'm familiar with .... checked Google and found a good number of complaints .... I agree with notifying them and strongly informing them that you are worried about the safety of using it

Wow. I hope he documents everything including receipts, saves the remaining rounds and packaging, contacts and complains to the manufacturer, and then contacts a lawyer. This is serious. Others might not be as lucky as he was.

Thanks for the heads up. Will definitely stay away from that manufacturer.

Amerc has a very bad reputation for the quality of their reloads and brass. Being a range scrounge I’ve picked up Amerc brass. It’s awful to try and reload their brass. Primers won’t seat properly and cases distort in the dies. I just chuck that brass in the recycle can when I see it now.

I believe that some Taurus guns have unsupported chambers. That can be a recipe for blowouts and kabooms.

I would also look at the rest of the ammo and make sure that they are taper crimped. I have seen roll crimped factory 9mm. That is another recipe for disaster.
