Are pumps .22 as fun as lever .22?
Are pumps .22 as fun as lever .22?
To my dear friends who are proud owners of the Henry H00T3 pump .22.
Since I’m eyeing one of these puppies I would like your opinion. I understand the reliability and the consistency of the very short stroke pump, but are they as FUN as their lever cousins.
Believe it or not, FUN, is a big issue for me. As a matter of fact when people ask me why I have so many levers instead of “more accurate” and lower maintenance bolt action rifles my answer is simple. Because of the FUN factor!

Well you still load them up and shoot or pump all day! I have one of them and yes they are fun.

Yes they are as much fun as a lever. Especially for us lefties. I think a pump-action Mare’s Leg would be the cat’s meow.

My Henry pump is even more fun since I got a Speed D Loader for it. Now I spend less time loading and more time shooting.
Re: Are pumps .22 as fun as lever .22?
Ive sold quite a few guns. But the pump has made the cut and will not be sold. Always enjoy it when I shoot it.

Love the Henry pump especially with a Spee D loader

That’s a very good point! I’ve never thought about that since I’m a righty.

Re: Are pumps .22 as fun as lever .22?
I've always thought that if pump rifles had appeared in the Old West, sooner, they might have been as popular as lever guns are today. For sure, pump rifles were more popular back when I started shooting than they are now. Never owned a Henry, but I have been fortunate to own one of the great classic pump 22s in the Winchester Model 61. Fun rifles to shoot, for sure. Back in the day, the Remington centerfire pump rifles were very popular for deer hunting in this area.

Re: Are pumps .22 as fun as lever .22?
I have a Winchester 61 and it keeps going between the stack that I want to sell and the stack I want to keep. The action is a lot smoother than the Henry pump but that would be expected for a 70 year old firearm compared to a new one.

The Winnie 61 and 62 were about as good as it gets in construction quality and, being a Winchester, you should get top dollar if yours is in good shape. Still a very sought after Winchester. Not unusual for one in mint shape to bring 1K.

Re: Are pumps .22 as fun as lever .22?
I would have preferred the 62 because of the exposed hammer. My 61 certainly isn’t mint but it is in excellent condition. I put it back in the sell pile along with the 9422LR. The 9422M was already there and my friend in Texas claimed the 9410.

Yes, but you don't look as cool as you do with a lever gun. . .
Re: Are pumps .22 as fun as lever .22?
A lot of folks don't know that the Winchester 61 was the first rifle that W.R.A. made in the then new .22 W.M.R. I took my Henry pump to the range today and used my Speed D Loader. I put 34 shots in a space that you could cover with a quarter at ten yards. I have a Marlin 39 but the Henry pump gets shot a lot more.
Re: Are pumps .22 as fun as lever .22?
Love both types. The pump carries easily in one hand.

That Rossi is sleek. I'll bet it's easy to carry. All nice.
