Shall we play a game?

Post by BrokenolMarine » Sun Mar 28, 2021 1:46 am

Let's Play a Game

To take our minds off the turmoil in the country, let's play the "What is it?" game.
It's easy,
It's fun for many.
Just reach in your junk drawer,
or the center drawer of your desk,
top drawer of your bedroom chest of drawers....
Wherever you keep your keepsakes, memorabilia, whatever.
Pull out an odd object and post the picture of it. Then WE post that we KNOW or Don't ... don't post the answer right away, let folks have time to post their response. If you post an item YOU have but Don't know what it is... say so. OLD items are fun, cause, you know, some of us carried them and we are, you know. Old. IF your file has the name of the item on the pic, you may want to change it to another name, so it's not given away below the picture depending on the browser folks are using.

So, who knows what my key fob for years IS....

Who's Next? Whatcha' got?
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Hint, as you can probably tell, it's made of wood.

My keyfob?

Go/No Go feeler gauge for a 50 caliber machine gun.
Carried it as a door gunner in CH46s and CH53s to check/adjust the headspace on the bolt to insure proper cycling. Loved the airborne 50. Uncle Sammy paid for the ammo we shot out the door/windows.

Although you might be able to use it for that, it was designed for something different.

First one a fire starter? Second one an axe stone?
Another vote for fire starter but no, not an ax stone.
Nothing to do with axes.

I found this on our farm where there had been a prehistoric village, (or so the Smithsonian told me when they examined it).
I also have several hammer heads that I found there. When I was in college in Virginia one of my professors worked at the
Smithsonian and took them in to authenticate them. They could have legally kept them but they said they had hundreds already
and didn't need any more so they gave them back.

What this is can be figured out by the type of stone it is. It's sandstone. Which made it useful for shaping and smoothing
arrow or spear shafts and sharpening blades. They could also heat a shaft in a fire and then use the stone to bend it straight.
It took several reheating's to do so, but they tell me that each village usually had one person who specialized in just this for everyone.

I'm guessing the rock is an ancient boat anchor or perhaps a weight for fishing net
