Prices are nuts
Re: Prices are nuts
Prices of ammo are crazy now and at moment I don't see it coming back to normal. In fact I see a new normal in the future. I just can't imagine we will see prices like we did in the past.

Time will tell, but I'm sure it'll be more expensive from here on out.

While things will get better in about 8 months or so, I don’t believe that we will ever see the bargain prices we saw 2 years ago:
1K rounds of 9mm for $169; 1K of .45 acp for $259 and 5K Águila copper plated 40gr .22LR for 4 cents per round all delivered to my door by different places. By next time this year ammo will be available but expect to pay 50% to 75% more than the above mentioned prices.

Re: Prices are nuts
Seems like after the last shortage 9mm price per box went up to around $12 from $9 so I hope to maybe see it at around $15 a box. At least I'd be able to do some shooting again, I have around 25 boxes of 9mm but am being very stingy about shooting it.
Thinking about following Sir Henry's lead and getting a decent air rifle. At least bb's and pellets are still cheap and I have enough room to set up a small target range.

Re: Prices are nuts
You and the rest of the shooters in the country. There are indeed shortages, but if you are not at all choosy about the gun or what it shoots, you may be OK. It took me over three months to acquire my Hatsan PCP rifle last fall. MANY airguns are shown as available from gun and airgun shops, but when you try to order you find out that the gun was never on the shelf, it will be ordered from the warehouse “when available”. Or the caliber you want for that powerful PCP (.22 or .25) may be on back order but the .177 guns are on the shelf.... and prices are all over the place, but not as crazy as for firearms.
Good quality pellets (not the mainstream junk Crossman/ Gamo/ Daisy ones) are highly variable.Be wary of buying pellets from Amazon and even the big firearm sources like Midway USA. They do not package them correctly and they arrived damaged (often badly). An airgun shop like Pyramyd will pack them in dense snug fitting foam. Plus they have a buy two get one (pellet tins) offer usually. Once you do find a pellet your gun likes (they are very picky) stock up on them! About half of the 92 pellets on this page, mostly the good brands, are “Preorder”. .... https://www.pyramydair.com/a/Ammo/Airg ... ibers_0_22

Re: Prices are nuts
Pellets will get hard to find if everyone goes pellets. My recommendation is to buy as many pellets for as you can afford. Pellets do go back so you can’t buy 20 years worth.dave77 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 12:03 amSeems like after the last shortage 9mm price per box went up to around $12 from $9 so I hope to maybe see it at around $15 a box. Crazy is the order of the day: Norma TAC .22LR ammo (my H001T favorite brand) is going for .30 cents per round +shipping, IF u can find it, a far cry from the .8 cents per round I was paying, delivered, just 2 years ago.

Since I have an air gun coming I will stock up on pellets, will have to stock up on CO2 cartridges also. Will be getting the adapter, seems like CO2 cost in volume is cheaper with 12g cartridges than 88g cartridges.Sir Henry wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 11:21 amPellets will get hard to find if everyone goes pellets. Curious as to how lead pellets go bad? Although I would not be buying 20 years worth, if I'm still around in 20 years I doubt I'll be doing much shooting.

Re: Prices are nuts
Are they not pure lead? I have some ingots we melted down from stained glass came to cast round balls, it's been sitting in a open container for over 20 years and still looks and feels fine.
Would the pellets last longer in a sealed container with some oxygen absorbers?

I've got a box of Sheridan 5mm pellets in their original plastic box. I've had them at least 20 years and they still shoot fine.dave77 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 27, 2021 8:00 pmAre they not pure lead? Re: Prices are nuts
I'm happy to be able to say that we paid straight MSRP for the Bond derringer we are scheduled to pick up this coming Friday from our local gun shop .... further, MSRP for the polished 44 Spec barrel that is being shipped to us from BuckSnort Outfitters .... interestingly enough, any more paying MSRP is pretty much the same as getting a good size discount ..

All I know is my father-in-law had some in his garage that were not shootable. My guess is they were 50’s to 70’s vintage.dave77 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 27, 2021 8:00 pmAre they not pure lead? Re: Prices are nuts
After getting back from Texas I had decided to take 3 more guns to the shop I was using to sell them. 2 of the three have sold. One of the guns I took there was a Ruger Bisley 45 Colt with the 45ACP cylinder. I think there is a couple people here who have one. Mine was stainless. It sold today for a price I would never dream of getting for a Ruger Single Action. Price 1125.00. Thats over double what I gave for it.

Re: Prices are nuts
I really don't need the money enough to sell any of my guns. I would rather have THEM than the cash!
What's with a few members selling all these guns? Don't get it.
