It took 58 years

Post by ditto1958 » Sat Aug 27, 2016 11:18 pm

When I was growing up, my younger brother and I discovered our dad's .22 rifle. A nice old Springfield 87A, a semi-auto that he bought back in about 1947 when he was 16 years old. Over the years, we admired that gun, but I never did get to shoot it. Until today, that is.

A couple of years ago, before Dad passed away, he Passed the rifle down to my nephew. Recently, my nephew took it out to the range to try it out, and found that it wouldn't run right. I repaired it for him, and took it out for a test drive today. It ran like a champ.

It was kind of strange that it took 58 years to get a chance to shoot Dad's rifle, but I'm glad I finally did. Hopefully, now that it works again, my nephew will get a lot of enjoyment from it over the years. It's a really nice old gun.

Thanks, very interesting and glad that you could get to shoot it. I still have my dad's old Springfield .22 single shot, that was made around 1935. Still shoots good.

Glad that you were finally able to make some noise with it.
