more....just out checking yearlings...mid summer...riding through the cattle is a regular duty. Check for footrots, pinkeye, wolf kills, or any other issues. Also check spring fed water tanks and make sure they are still running ok. Long days but good ones. I was out with my wife this day, she took the photos.

I try to not work the same horse 2 days in a row. It's tough on them. I had 3 when I rode for the a7, but I didn't ride there every day either so they were always well rested, except one August when Badger put his front leg into barbed wire and spent a month in a cast. Then my mare worked double duty...you really have to take care of their backs and make sure you don't sore them. Good clean pads, and a good fitting saddle along with riding in balance helps keep them working well. Roping is hard on them too, especially if you're roping and doctoring 1600 lb cows or 2000 lb bulls. There's a lot of pressure on horses for that, not just physical but mental too. They have to have days off to just relax and be a horse sometimes.

I'm back after a few days in the high country. Rain rain and more rain. No cow pics this time but when the rain let up once I did take these. Some long views and Badger on our lunch break. We just worked alone most of the time.

The photo of Elk Valley, along with the high country photos are all very beautiful and serene. That rain (it would be most welcome in parched KCMO now) has brought the green out, and it sure looks like Badger is enjoying his lunch! Appreciate your postings, RR.

Thanks. I was pretty happy to get that one! Pretty dramatic clouds today. Covered a lot of miles. I'll be in the forestry reserve this weekend and will try to get more pics.
