The Gothic Line in WWII

Post by Sir Henry » Fri Jan 29, 2021 12:29 am

My battery in Vietnam had a Japanese soldier and we didn’t think anything of it. Decades latter at one of the reunions he told us about his father and uncle. They were part of the 442nd RCT. He sent me this link today. As a mountaineer I fully understand going up a 60 degree scope with full combat packs. One man fell 300 feet and did not utter a sound.

This was interesting, thanks.

There are an uncountable number of examples of such bravery and determination in every war throughout history, and on all sides of combat. The vast majority are never told or heard of, even by those who participated. I could relate dozens from my own experience, but instead I'll just mention a line on the Iwo Jima memorial that captures the essence of it:

"Uncommon valor was a common virtue".
Bellum Omnium Contra Omnes is rapidly becoming a reality (11/2023). Para Bellum.

The 442nd was, I believe, the most highly decorated unit of WW2. They were ferocious adversaries if you were a nazi. We owe them our respect and gratitude.

Thanks, Gene. That was a good story. Thanks for posting.
I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.
