Henry 357 has a 1:30 flight

Post by beaverislander » Tue Jan 19, 2021 12:55 pm

Back on December 9th I bought a NIB Henry 357 tube fed from an individual. My brother picked it up for me however he lives 200 miles away. It has taken this long to get it as we do not have an FFL on the island and we are 32 miles out in Lake Michigan so it needs to be flown over. To make a long story short he drove the 200 miles today and it has a 1:30 "reservation." Needless to say.... I'm anxious to meet the new Henry!

32 miles X 7 miles. If you'd like to check it out google zip code 49782. There is a large inland lake (Lake Geneserath) on the south end, which is where we live.

What a beautiful setting! I think winter weather could be a challenge for me, though.

Congrats on the Henry, I googled Beaver island and I could live there.. I forgot yesterday was a holiday. Your brass is enroute. Any fish in that lake?

Lets just say winter was a lot more fun 20 years ago. I don't snowmobile or ice fish anymore.... to hard on the bones.

And yes Oldbrass, they successfully planted Walleye in our inland lake (Geneserath) 12-15 years ago, so now we have Walleye, Bass, Pike, Bluegills and Sunfish. You have to get out to the big lake for the Salmon and Lake Trout.

I'd rather eat Walleye any day. I don't ice fish or snowmobile anymore either. My old SRV sits in the barn in perfect condition
but I have no one left to ride with and at 80 I hate to go out alone. Still pretty here on the lake. It was a perfect
place to snowmobile. I suppose it still is.

This time of year I can set up targets and shoot off of the back porch,,,, no one is around, they're all in Florida. In the summer I have a friend with a 300 acre deer camp just 3 miles from my house. I made him a nice shooting bench last summer and we all enjoy using that. I probably use his camp more than he does, at least in the summer months.

By the way, I just unboxed the 357... what a beautiful rifle. I know many of you already have them..... I'm just late to the party. The tags on it indicate it was inspected 12-2017 so it's been around awhile. Not sure how you could keep it in the box for 3 years but I'm glad he did. Tomorrow I hope to get it dirty :-)

A few years ago (well, maybe 10??) Ski-Doo made a 300 Free-Style and we bought one for my wife. It only weighs around 400 pounds if I remember correctly, but at least I was able to scoot the back end around if I got into a jam. It had a Rotax engine and there was a button that you pushed to stop the engine and it restarted with the cam going in the reverse direction.... that is the reverse! It''s a great machine for an old fart, I don't need to go fast anymore, it will hit 50-55 and that's good enough for me. We sold the big ones but kept this one. They still sell for more than we paid for it when new if you can find one. There's a 50' hole right out in front of my house. I can set tip-ups out and sit around the wood-burner while watching them. Then a flag goes up and ruins everything.... you have to put your drink down, get dressed up and go out and reel in dinner.

What a picture. Thanks for posting it and enjoy that 357. Just did a bit of load development with mine and it’s such a pleasure to shoot.

OK, back on track here. You are going to love the Henry .357, My favorite load is the Missouri Bullets 180 grain coated Striker's. Great rifle and it eats .38s without a problem if you so desire.

I have had a problem with mine feeding the lead semi wad cutter bullets.
They used to refer to them as the "Elmer Keith Hunter" target loads and I have loaded thousands of them in the past.
I think it doesn't like the shoulder on the slug.
I do have a limited number of round nosed lead bullets so I guess I'll have to stick to those.

If that's the case I'm going to have a problem.
