Vanity Restoration

I like what you ended up doing with the blemishes. Even though you will be remodeling, that might reduce the urgency factor.
Sucks about the NOT plumber. Ran into a couple things like that when I bought my small house....frustrating.

Worked a while yesterday afternoon, having done a lot of the final prep work. I did some more work with the Timbermate Wood Filler and sanding, and filled in the gaps I found annoying. After giving the vanity the morning to dry, I went out and painted the bottom inside with white enamel for a somewhat water resistant seal in case of drips or a future leak. I put on two coats. I gave it a couple hours to dry somewhat.

After killing time watching a movie while eating lunch with Miss T, I went back out and cut in the trim, and then painted that. Two coats of satin finish black enamel for the trim. I am pleased with the accent. It picks up the hardware. It's removed in the pics but if you scroll back up you can see that the drawer pulls are black, and ... you can't know this, but the faucets are black with bronze accents.

Prior to starting the painting, the entire flat surfaces of the vanity got a light sanding with 400 grit sandpaper to help the paint stick. Today, I will paint the vanity with Miss Tina's choice of white, whatever it was she chose. I have the doors and drawers laid out and the vanity ready. Then if the trim needs additional coats, or something needs touch ups, they can happen while the rest dries and we wait for the plumbers.

That U shaped notch in the back of the center section will allow the vanity to slide around the pipes coming up out of the floor in the Master Bath.

I should put the hardware on tomorrow. We are waiting on the plumber to give an estimate on a job. Do we just repair and replumb the bathroom sinks for now, or replumb all the water lines before reinstalling the vanity? In the last three months, the hot water lines to the bathtub in the master bath, the vanity in the master bath, and the kitchen sink... All failed.

Seems the pipe used is not rated for hot water. Known to fail when used in that application. We can replumb the vanity, keep an eye on the guest bath, and do the big job at the end of the summer... Or... Do it now.

The guy comes tomorrow... Sometime. I'll put the hardware back on tomorrow morning. Pulls, hinges, etc. The doors, drawers, feet? After I move it back in.

The other question. If we replumb the water lines, do we rip out the cheesy shower and fake jacuzzi and add the roll in shower and soaking tub now? Will depend on the two estimates.

No, the vanity restoration started because the hot water lines behind the cabinets, going to the dual sinks, were incorrectly plumbed. The hot water side began to drip, drip, drip. The mdf began it's sponge impersonation, and turned to mush, and wicked (Not John Wick,) water to the trim and center verticals.

Thus began the journey. Both frustrating and interesting, enjoyable and creative. I have used many of the tools in the shop. The third failure of a hot water line came while we had no sinks in the madter bath. You gotta look at the big picture then.

Over the past two days, the plumbers have been on site re-plumbing all the water lines. This afternoon we moved the restored vanity back into the bathroom and they plumbed that into place. They asked if it would be okay if they didn't color code the water lines in the master bath sink as they had run out of the blue line and it was the last phase of the job. :raised: I told them if was fine as long as the hot came out of the hot side and the cold came out of the cold side. :yes:

They began by running the lines up thru the access I had provided in the center of the vanity.

Next they plumbed in the individual drain lines for the sinks and ran them to the center, and hooked up the sinks.

With those lines run, they could join the two and run them down into the center drain.... all neat and clean.

Once everything was connected, we were able to put the drawers back in and the doors back on, and the project was finally done. Looks pretty good for something that should have been tossed in the dumpster and replaced.
