What's in the roaster today?

Post by fortyshooter » Sat Jan 16, 2021 3:14 pm

Slow cooking the Ballistic gel ! You break it up in small chunks...set the Temp to 250F and let it simmer most of the afternoon.
Then let it cool for 12+ hours and pull it out the mold.

Hope wifey don't need to cook nothin'!

Not to worry though I bought this just for the job!

I have never been around it, what does it smell like when it is simmering.

Yeah...you would be chewing on that stuff for a good while!
Well getting any debris out was simple as in just break the stuff apart and any bullet frags would come right out.

I took a serrated knife and cut block into 2 inch slices and then just tear that into chunks.

A very slight odor but not bad. I was doing the operation in the garage and it all worked out very nice.

One nice remolded block of ballistic gel ready for the range! Worked out really well and came out nice and clear. Takes some tugging to get it out the mold box though! Before and After remolding pictures

Wow that’s incredible. Do you use any kind of a release agent in the pan? Or perhaps a cooking type spray?

Pretty impressive just how perfect it came out.

No release agent applied unless using a high temp plastic mold so they say in instructions. I take a knife and run it down and around the sides to break the seal/suction and then you work your hand in at one end with the mold standing up on end. Push in and pull out and it flops out.
Oh and make sure to have some clean plastic sheet on the floor so it doesn't pick up any dirt/dust as anything will stick to it!
