Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
well, some of today went exactly as planned .... other parts went nothing as planned .... the best part has been a truly beautiful day in the neighborhood .... it actually got so warm that for a couple of hours we had to run bot of our camper's roof mounted AC's ..
.. I did go to put up our flag but the rear end of the camper is so far off of the ground doing so would require getting our our expanding ladder .... yes, that could be done but the ground back there is so wet and soft that its going to have to dry out .... about 10AM the water went off .... that caught us by surprise because this campground usually sends a notification text the day before .... as it turned out, they did send one out yesterday morning but we didn't the message ....our onboard supply was very low because of having to use it a couple of nights on our drive .... a grocery shopping trip was scheduled for tomorrow, so we about 4PM we figured the best way to ensure the water would come back on was to drive over to Willis today ..
.. we returned back to the camper about an hour later and sure enough, the water was back on .... later we fired up the Traveler and grilled/smoked some chicken
Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
Happy to hear you had to run your A/C’s. A good problem to have.
Just curious, is shutting the water off a normal practice and if so why?

Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
the core of the water pipe system is old and this park is expanding like crazy .... a year ago they shut it off a few times to install new valves and such .... no clue what the problem was this time

Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
its been a good day .... no, its been a really good day .. [Click and drag to move] .. the RV Tech we have known for years and who has taken care of many issues for us came by .... our biggest concern was our Sportchassis leaking coolant .... we were afraid that the water pump was going bad and had visions of a large repair bill .... as it turned out, the pressure cap on the coolant tank is bad ..
.. right after breakfast in the morning, we will most definitely head for the nearest auto parts
Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
Glad you dont need anything serious. Went out today to go to town in the Dodge and had to use our lithium battery jumper to start the Dodge. Batteries are over 5 years old so I need new batteries. Will take care of that tomorrow.

Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
any more, good batteries ain't cheap .... but then, everything seems to cost more than I think it should .... earlier today I was looking at the brochure they give you when you check into this campground .... one of the business advertisements I noticed is a company that will come here and install new Interstate batteries ....
Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
I got interstate batteries when I bought the Cedar Creek from the dealer. I thought they would be good batteries as I know they have a good reputation. But after losing both of them a 18 months later I dont think I will be buying those again. They are no longer owned by the same company. I was told this by batteries plus. Thats where I bought our current batteries for the 5er. Im not sure what I will get tomorrow but I know it wont be Interstate.

Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
good examples taken today of why we spend our winters in Texas and don't head northwest to Estelline, SD where we spend our summers ..

that comes as no surprise whatsoever .... we made that decision about 10 years ago and see no reason to rethink it

Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
busy (well busier than customarily having little to nothing scheduled
) day on tap .... first up, pulling/filling/reinstalling one of the camper's 40 lb propane tanks .... second, arranging for a package delivery at our current campground .... third, scheduling a mobile RV Tech to come by and stop a minor water leak .... fourth, change the camper's water filters .... most importantly, enjoy the rest of the day
Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
Yeah, I just sat outside on the patio with my wife for a few minutes and told her (again), “we really need to become snowbirds”. And it’s been a pretty mild winter. Must be an age thing.markiver54 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 9:09 pmAl,... please include us in your enjoyment away from winter weather....![]()

Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
project for today, install a small coolant recovery tank on our Sportchassis .... in looking at it, shouldn't be much of a problem .... in retrospect, that usually doesn't turn out to be a good sign ..
Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
Im surprised it doesnt already have one.

Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
in looking back I too am a bit surprised that it didn't come with a recovery tank ... I did get one installed .... while I'm happy with the install, I'm far from happy with the hose that came with the kit .... it has several significant kinks that all but block the flow through the hose .... I most definitely plan to purchase a better hose at the earliest opportunity .... while very hopeful, the effectiveness of this new tank has yet to be proven

Re: 2021 Trip To Texas
Its a real commitment Hatch. This is the first year for us and so far I hope to be able to continue. Ive already made reservations for next year. We will leave Dec 1 and not go back until mid March. My wife is kind of the leader so to speak because her parents did it. We bought our first 5er in 2006 trading that one for a bigger one in 2008. We kept that one until May of 2019. Im hoping this one will last us until we are thru. Right now its 9pm here and the temp is still 68 deg it was 72 today.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 2:22 pmYeah, I just sat outside on the patio with my wife for a few minutes and told her (again), “we really need to become snowbirds”. If we knew how complicated some projects would get we wouldn’t start half the stuff.
