2021 Trip To Texas

as is never planned on but always planned for, our plans for today's drive changed .... chose not to make a fuel stop instead parked at the Mississippi welcome center and took a quick break .... in short, parked and used our own facilities .... it took us 6 hrs 16 min to cover 329.2 miles and we are now once again setup in the Baton Rouge KOA .... our site is in their recently renovated area .... water/sewer/electric are good .... $58 with a Goodsam discount

our camper was built prior to auto leveling systems being used on 5ers and Travel Trailers .... a couple of years later we had what I believed to still be the best auto leveling system installed by a friend in St Louis .... basically, we have a remote to use in hooking up and unhooking .... then, we push one button and she quickly levels herself

from the forecast that I just checked, getting out of here in the morning without getting wet may or may not be possible .... it wouldn't be the first time we've had to break camp in rain but we'd much prefer not to have to .... several years ago we met a mobile RV Tech who works in the area around Conroe, TX ... over the years he's fixed several things for us and I trust both him and his work .... just got off the phone with him and he's going to come by to take care of a couple of items on our camper and to try and figure out our camper's coolant leak ... his first reaction after I told him about not being able to find the source of the link was "water pump" .... time will tell

UPDATE :

our i10 TireMinder has been in use during 4 long days driving that have covered well over 1,000 miles .... must say I'm impressed with its operation .... so far, it hasn't lost track of any sensor at any time .... more times than not, I couldn't say the same for our former PressurePro TPMS .... for some reason, it would often lose contact with a signal from the driver's side front tire of our Sportchassis .... the odd thing about it is, that sensor was the closest to the control panel .... the next system test should take place when we reach Lake Conroe where I will need to turn off the monitoring of the camper's tires

we awoke to a wet 38 degree morning at the Baton Rouge KOA .... we didn't hear any rain overnight but it sure must have come down .... today's destination Lake Conroe Thousand Trails in Willis, TX with a single fuel stop at the Petro in Beaumont, TX .... this is our last planned day of travel, once we get to Conroe we are booked to be there for the next 3 weeks .... only supposed to get up to 44 today at Conroe ... the good news is, the rain has moved out .... watching the 1943 movie Air Force staring Harry Carey, Arthur Kennedy and John Ridgely

I’m sure you’re well aware of the weather in Texas, I saw a report on the news this morning showing 8” of snow had fallen. I didn’t catch the exact part of the state but our local weather guy said it was in the lower elevations of Texas. Showed a rancher out feeding cattle and it looked pretty miserable to this northern boy.

thankfully, the storm moved through north of us .... no weather related issues during today's drive .... well, we made it ..!.. we are now parked on a site in Lake Conroe Thousand Trails where we plan to spend the next 3 weeks .... its a cold 38 degrees and to drop below freezing for 7 hours tonight .... we've settled in for the evening .... putting out the rest of our setup will have to wait until tomorrow .... the good news is, by mid week it should be close to 70 .... today's drive took us 5 hr 48 min to cover 322.5 miles .... since leaving home it took us 22 hrs 1 min to put 1,322.9 miles on our rig .... no plans whatsoever to get started early in the morning ..

we awoke on our first morning in Texas to 34 degrees and the sight of a beautiful Carolina Blue .... after 5 consecutive dark, overcast sky, that's sure nice .... we also awoke to the sight of a heavy frost that looked like a baby snow .... thankfully we haven't run into any of the real ice/snow that has fallen across a wide part of this state .... camping in subfreezing temps isn't one of our favorite things but having done so many, many, many, all toooo many days over the years, doing so isn't a problem .... shortly I hope to get a rack of Baby Back Ribs in our Traveler smoker and to begin our site setup .... with the temps for the rest of this week to be in the 60's some of our setup may well be delayed a day or so

for most of the day the sun was bright and clear, late this afternoon the clouds rolled in and the temp quickly fell from reasonably comfortable to down right cool .... the first thing we setup was our Traveler grill/smoker .... while it was busy smoking some ribs we setup our deck and put out the patio carpet .... tomorrow we plan to put up our flag and a dusk to dawn timer

today's plans include finishing our setup and grilling/smoking some chicken breast for supper .... no plan to so much as move the truck today .... my wife has tested the water and I'll be installing a water softener .... sometime after noon we hope to take a walk around the campground

its been a good while since I've seen a Western Hauler tow truck .... apparently the company is still alive and well .... the one shown below is parked about 3 sites from us at Lake Conroe
