Re: Some BP questions

I have always cleaned my BP rifles with hot water and a flush tool right into the water. I change the water after it looks good in the barrel and flush some more. I run several patches until dry and then flush with a a good amount of wd40 and dry again. WD40 is to help remove any remaining water that may be there. I then use a good gun oil to oil everything and put it away. Time involved in doing all this is maybe 20 minutes. I also keep them in a gun rack hanging on the wall, no muzzle down crap. My best target rifle has been in use for over 30 years with no rust problems.

Everyone has there own method. BP and petroleum products dont mix so I have read. Ive never used a petroleum product with any of my BP rifles including shooting my Shiloh 45-100. Ive alwys used water to clean mine also because I use a flushing method to clean it. WD 40 displaces water but so does alcohol. I dont use WD-40 because as an amsoil dealer there MP product is better.Im sure in Canada amsoil is available. I would think Eezox is avaliable up there also. If not Mobil one is synthetic and alot of people I know use it in there guns. Just my .02 cents worth. No rust in my Shiloh its over 20 years old.

Checked the rifle just now. 18 hrs after deep clean. Looks good. Nothing on any dry patches or on the one I re-oiled it with.

Yup. Can get some online but $60 shipping cuz dangerous goods. So 9 cans of 100 ends up about $170. Maybe just bite the bullet go to Calgary and get some GOEX ffg while I am there.

Whoa thats alot for hazmat shipping. Mine were 5.99 USD at sporting goods store. Had a grandson go get them for me while Im down here. But if I was to buy them online they would be 56.00 a 1000 plus shipping and hazmat. About 74.00 a 1000 online. Local purchase much cheaper.

Making an antler handle ball starter as a little project this evening. It's in the clamp drying as we speak. One thing I really like about this muzzle loading stuff is that everything about it is real old time style gear. Very cool. This old cowboy is going back in time not forward...
