Re: Velocity
I purchased a "red" chrony for about $100 new. And I have had so much fun with it! Some manual calculations are close and some way off. The only way to tell is to shoot with one. Velocity x BC = trajectory.

Re: Velocity
Mine also was only about $100. Money well spent if you are handloading.
This one if I remember correctly.

Re: Velocity
I think you would need a base velocity from any specific rifle before you could just calculate speeds at other distances.

Re: Velocity
There is probably an app for your tablet or smart phone for a ballistic calculator, if you have one. I would think the formula is rather complex for hand computation. I could be wrong. I have been before.
There is, I think, humor here which does not translate well from English to sanity. - Sanya

Re: Velocity
On the subject of chronographs... I spent years with a Pacts. It worked... not especially well but it was cheap and it got me velocity. I considered purchasing one of blue ones that have the fold up console beside you. Think it's CED. Really considered the Ohler but good grief that's a good amount of cash. I agonized over this for several years. About a month ago I grazed my sensor uprights on the Pact1. I decided it was time to retire the old girl. I decided to go with the Pro Chrony. I am really impressed with that one. The whole thing sits down range which can be a issue, but I have not needed to fire as near to the sensors as I needed to with the Pacts. I always hated setting the Pact up but this pro chronograph is easy to setup, stores shots, and catches data with greater reliability. Mine is the Digital one.
